Filomena Venditti de Alonzi, madre de nuestro hermano Mario Alonzi, tiene 82 años. Vive en Venezuela sola y vino a los EE. UU. a pasar 3 meses con sus hijos por Navidad.

El día de su llegada, no sabemos si por cansancio o algún mareo, se cayó repentinamente rompiéndose la cabeza del fémur y parte de la cadera, siendo necesario un reemplazo con prótesis.

La operación salió con éxito, pero la recuperación va a ser lenta y con mucha rehabilitación necesaria, por su situación y edad.

Ella no tiene seguro en los EE. UU., y el trato que le han dado como turista no permite a los hospitales ofrecer ningún tipo de ayuda o programa hacia Filomena. Hemos consultado con muchas personas que han trabajado en el área social de los memorial hospitals confirmando que en su situación no hay programa ni ayuda que aplique.

En este caso, queda todo a expensas de sus hijos. La dificultad principal es que Filomena necesita ser trasladada a un centro de rehabilitación privado después de su operación en el hospital, sin alternativas publicas dentro de la misma institución. Por la situación de ella, sin cobertura médica local, todo pago debe ser por adelantado.

Filomena se tuvo que trasladar inicialmente al centro de rehabilitación de Glades en Miramar, que fue el costo inicial mas bajo encontrado bajo las circunstancias, ya que nos permitía pagar por adelantado por semana y no pagos de periodos mas prolongados, dándonos la oportunidad de seguir buscando soluciones, inclusive en otros centros según vayamos encontrando reducción de costos hasta que nos autorizen poder hacer outpatient y continuar con las rehabilitaciones en esta modalidad.

Filomena va a necesitar al menos de 6 a 8 semanas de Rehabilitación.

Filomena Venditti de Alonzi, mother of our brother Mario Alonzi, is 82 years old. She lives in Venezuela alone and came to the U.S. to spend 3 months with her children for Christmas.

On the day of his arrival, we do not know if due to fatigue or dizziness, he fell suddenly, breaking the head of the femur and part of the hip, requiring a replacement with prostheses.

The operation was successful, but the recovery will be slow and with a lot of necessary rehabilitation, due to her situation and age.

She has no insurance in the U.S., and the treatment she has been given as a tourist does not allow hospitals to offer any kind of help or program towards Filomena.

We have consulted with many people who have worked in the social area of the memorial hospitals confirming that in their situation there is no program or help that applies.

In this case, everything is at the expense of their children. The main difficulty is that Filomena needs to be transferred to a private

rehabilitation center after her operation in the hospital, with no public alternatives within the same institution. Because of her situation, without local medical coverage, all payments must be made in advance.

Filomena initially had to move to the Glades Rehabilitation Center in Miramar, which was the lowest initial cost found under the circumstances, as it allowed us to pay weekly in advance rather than for longer periods. This gave us the opportunity to continue looking for solutions, including other centers as we find cost reductions, until we are authorized to do outpatient care and continue with rehabilitation in this mode.
