Edgar José López Mendéz es un hombre venezolano de 66 años que ha sido sordo toda su vida. No obstante, esto nunca lo detuvo a vivir y tener una familia. Es viudo y padre de Mariana y José Tadeo, ambos hijos residiendo en el exterior, trabajando arduamente para poder darle, en sus posibilidades, calidad de vida a su padre. Aunque ha sido un hombre sano, ex deportista de paraolímpicos, la vida le ha tocado muy difícil, debido a que fue diagnosticado con glaucoma hace aproximadamente 10 años y por esta causa ha sufrido de desprendimiento de retina de ambos ojos. Uno de sus ojos quedó completamente ciego y Edgar sólo cuenta con un único ojo que ha sido sometido 2 veces a cirugía, con la esperanza de no quedar, además de ser sordo, ciego y que nunca más pueda comunicarse con sus amigos y familiares.
El pasado martes 4 de Mayo de 2021, nos hemos enterado de una terrible noticia en una de sus consultas de rutina. Edgar tiene en su membrana epimacular, un pseudo agujero macular, lo que está causando que pierda parte de la visión de su único ojo y necesita ser sometido URGENTEMENTE a una VITRECTROMÍA.
En vista de la situación crítica de Venezuela, país que sufre una crisis económica agresiva y los costos son más elevados que en muchos países, sus hijos han tomado la decisión de trasladarlo y operarlo en Panamá, donde reside su hijo mayor y contaría además del cuidado y amor de él, ya que las condiciones sanitarias de Venezuela y con lo comprometedora que es la cirugía, corre riesgos de contraer enfermedades e infecciones pre y post-quirúrgicas que pueden causarle la perdida total de la visión.
La cantidad de dinero a recolectar se destinará para pagos de cirugía, honorarios médicos, medicinas y exámenes pre y post-operatorios, insumos médicos, pasajes y traslados al exterior y pruebas Covid19 en ambos países para entrada y salida.
Cabe destacar, que esta cirugía debe realizarse lo mas pronto posible, ya que cada día que pasa sin poderse operar es más el riesgo de que no pueda recuperar la visión

Edgar José López Mendéz is a 66-year-old Venezuelan man who has been deaf all his life. However, this never stopped him from living and having a family. He is a widower and father of Mariana and José Tadeo, both residing abroad, working hard to be able to give, as far as possible, quality of life to their father. Although he has been a healthy man, a former Paralympic athlete, life has been very difficult for him, because he was diagnosed with glaucoma about 10 years ago and for this reason he has suffered from retinal detachment in both eyes. One of his eyes is completely blind and Edgar only has one eye that has undergone surgery twice, with hope to not become, in addition to being deaf, blind and that he will never be able to communicate with his friends and family again.
Last Tuesday, May 4, 2021, we heard terrible news in one of his routine consultations. Edgar has in his epimacular membrane, a macular hole, which is causing him to lose part of the vision in his only eye and he needs to undergo a VITRECTROMY URGENTLY.
In view of the critical situation in Venezuela, a country that suffers from an aggressive economic crisis and costs are higher than in many countries, his sons have made the decision to transfer him and operate him in Panama, where his eldest son resides and would also include better care and love for him, since the sanitary conditions of Venezuela and the compromising surgery, he runs the risk of contracting pre and post-surgical diseases and infections that can cause total loss of vision.
The amount of money to be collected will be used for surgery payments, medical fees, medicines and pre and post-operative exams, medical supplies, tickets and transfers abroad and Covid19 tests in both countries for entry and exit.
It should be noted that this surgery must be carried out as soon as possible, since each day that passes without being able to operate, the risk of not being able to recover vision is biggest and worst.
