My name is Isabela, and today I’m asking for your help for a Colombian family that is going through one of the hardest moments of their lives.
La familia Gutiérrez Noreña, de Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda, Colombia, perdió a su hijo Jefferson en medio de la guerra entre Ucrania y Rusia.
The Gutiérrez Noreña family, from Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda, Colombia, lost their son Jefferson in the midst of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
Jefferson, a sus solo 27 años, tomó la difícil decisión de dejar su país tras ser reclutado por el gobierno ucraniano, con la esperanza de conseguir un ingreso que le permitiera ayudar a su familia y construir un futuro mejor. Lleno de sueños y valentía, se fue buscando oportunidades que en su país no encontraba. At just 27 years old, Jefferson made the difficult decision to leave his country after being recruited by the Ukrainian government, hoping to earn an income that would allow him to support his family and build a better future. Full of dreams and courage, he left in search of opportunities he couldn’t find at home.
Después de 45 días en Ucrania, lamentablemente la vida de Jefferson, junto a otros tres colombianos, fue arrebatada en una explosión en la ciudad de Kursk. After just 45 days in Ukraine, Jefferson’s life — along with the lives of three other Colombians — was tragically taken by an explosion in the city of Kursk.
Desde que su familia recibió la noticia, no solo luchan con el dolor de su pérdida, sino también con la impotencia y la incertidumbre de no saber si pueden traer su cuerpo de regreso a Colombia y despedirlo como se debe. Since receiving the heartbreaking news, his family has been struggling not only with the pain of his loss, but also with the helplessness and uncertainty of not knowing if they’ll ever be able to bring his body back to Colombia and say goodbye properly.
Hasta el momento, la familia no ha recibido ningún tipo de apoyo por parte del gobierno colombiano. La única solución que les han dado es cubrir ellos mismos todos los gastos del traslado del cuerpo desde Ucrania hasta Colombia. So far, the family has not received any support from the Colombian government. The only solution they’ve been offered is to cover the full cost of transporting Jefferson’s body from Ukranie to Colombia themselves.
Los costos son extremadamente altos y difíciles de asumir en estos momentos para la familia Gutiérrez.
The expenses are extremely high —far beyond what a the Gutierrez family can afford right now.
Por eso estamos aquí, buscando ayuda. Esta familia solo quiere tener la oportunidad de ver a su hijo una última vez, despedirlo con dignidad, y darle descanso en su tierra, rodeado del amor de los suyos.
That’s why we are here, asking for help. This family simply wants the chance to see their son one last time, say goodbye with dignity, and allow him to rest in his homeland, surrounded by the love of his family.
