Te comparto un breve resumen de cómo ha sido su camino en estos últimos años:

Fernando Frías Elizondo, mi papá, creció junto a sus hermanos en un pueblito llamado San Pedro de las Colonias, en Torreón, Coahuila.

A los 6 años llegaron a vivir a Monterrey él y su familia, en busca de mejores oportunidades. Ha sido un hombre leal con los suyos: hijo, esposo, padre y abuelo amoroso, del cual nos sentimos profundamente orgullosos.

Después de 42 años de vida laboral, en 2020 un infarto cerebral lo sorprendió de forma inesperada, dejándole secuelas. Gracias a su Seguro de Gastos Médicos Mayores (SGMM), pudo solventar todos los gastos médicos derivados de ese evento, incluyendo terapias de rehabilitación debido a la pérdida de fuerza en el brazo y la pierna derechos.

Mientras papá luchaba por recuperar su salud, le diagnosticaron cáncer de próstata y le extirparon un 80% de la glándula (2021).

Durante este tiempo, estuvo en tratamientos hormonales y, en octubre de 2023, se jubiló. Con ello, perdió su póliza de SGMM, quedando sin protección médica. La aseguradora le ofreció una nueva póliza con un costo excesivamente alto, motivo por el cual mi papá quedó desprotegido.

Desde entonces, ha tenido que cubrir los gastos de su enfermedad con recursos propios de su jubilación y pensión. En 2024, el cáncer no dio tregua, y por ello mi papá necesitó radioterapia, para la cual solicitó un préstamo bancario que, hasta el día de hoy, sigue pagando mes con mes, reduciendo considerablemente sus ingresos.

En diciembre de 2024, el oncólogo nos dijo que la enfermedad estaba controlada. Sin embargo, hace unas semanas, después de varios días de dolor sin motivo aparente, le informaron mediante estudios que su cáncer de próstata hizo metástasis óseas en la columna, pelvis, clavículas y fémur.

Le solicitaron iniciar sesiones de radioterapia nuevamente, esta vez con carácter urgente. Lamentablemente, es incosteable, ya que aún no terminamos de pagar el crédito bancario de las primeras sesiones. Acudimos al IMSS, y le dieron cita hasta dentro de un mes para valorarlo y, tal vez, darle pase a la clínica especializada en oncología. Pero él no puede esperar esas citas, ya que el cáncer en sus huesos está avanzando rápidamente, debilitando todo su cuerpo y haciéndolo pasar por un dolor inmenso.

Al día de hoy, mi papá está en cama, luchando contra esta terrible enfermedad y con la incertidumbre de si podremos o no brindarle el tratamiento médico que necesita.

De corazón, les agradezco el apoyo que nos puedan brindar, por más mínimo que sea. Cada peso cuenta.

Nos duele verlo en estas condiciones, después de tantos años de trabajo y dedicación. Sobre todo porque, siempre que estuvo en sus manos ayudar, lo hizo sin dudarlo.

Eso mismo deseamos para él: que todo ese amor y apoyo que alguna vez ofreció desinteresadamente vuelva a él. Por eso, tomamos la decisión de compartir el estado en el que se encuentra.

Help us give my dad a chance to fight cancer

Let me tell you a little about my father’s journey over the past years.

My father, Fernando Frías, grew up with his siblings in a small town called San Pedro de las Colonias, in Torreón, Coahuila. At the age of 6, he and his family moved to Monterrey City, seeking better opportunities. He has always been a loyal man to his loved ones: a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, and we are all incredibly proud of him.

After working for 42 years, in 2020 he suffered a sudden stroke that left lasting effects. Thankfully, his private health insurance covered the medical expenses, including some rehabilitation therapies to regain a bit of strength in his right arm and leg.

While Dad was fighting to regain his health, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021, and 80% of the gland was removed.

During this time, he was receiving hormone-therapy treatments. In October 2023, he retired and, with that decision, lost the private health-insurance plan that his company had provided. The insurer did offer him a new policy, but the cost was prohibitively high, so my father is now uninsured.

Since then, he has had to cover his medical expenses using his retirement and pension funds. In 2024, the cancer showed no mercy, and Dad needed radiotherapy. To afford this, he had to take out a bank loan, which he is still paying off month by month, significantly reducing his income.

In December 2024, we received hopeful news: the cancer seemed under control. But weeks later, after severe pain with no clear cause, new tests revealed the cancer had metastasized to his bones—spreading to his spine, pelvis, clavicles, and femur.

He was told he needed to start radiotherapy sessions again, this time urgently. Unfortunately, this is unaffordable, as we are still paying off the bank loan from the first round of sessions. We went to the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute), and they gave him an appointment a month from now for an evaluation and, perhaps, after some more months of tests, referral to a specialized oncology clinic. But he cannot wait that long; the cancer in his bones is advancing rapidly, weakening his entire body and causing him immense pain.

Today, my father is bedridden, battling this terrible disease and facing the uncertainty of whether we can provide him with the medical treatment he desperately needs.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for any support you can offer, no matter how small. Every contribution counts.

It pains us deeply to see him in this condition after so many years of hard work and dedication. Especially because, whenever he had the chance to help others, he did so without a second thought.

That is what we wish for him now: that all the love and support he once selflessly offered will come back to him. This is why we decided to share his current situation.
