Como familia, nos enfrentamos a uno de los mayores retos de la vida: despedirnos de nuestra increíble madre, Matilde Álvarez Cruz, esposa, hermana, hija y tía. El espíritu inquebrantable de nuestra madre fue una inspiración para todos nosotros, ya que ella valientemente tuvo diálisis durante más de 15 años. El 7 de diciembre de 2024 fue trasladada por vía aérea desde el Hospital de Winter Haven hasta el Hospital St. Joseph debido a una hemorragia cerebral (derrame cerebral), su segunda desde 2017. Dos semanas después, los médicos compartieron que habían hecho todo lo que podían, y fue enviada de vuelta al Hospital de Winter Haven. El lunes 30 de diciembre de 2024, tuvimos una reunión familiar con el médico y nos presentaron una decisión difícil: el hospicio era la única opción. El 1 de enero de 2025 fue trasladada al Hospicio Good Shepherd en Auburndale, Florida, donde continuó inspirando con su espíritu de lucha. El 3 de enero a las 2:13 am, tomó su último aliento en paz, dejando atrás un legado de amor, valentía y perseverancia. Para aquellos que no tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla, muchos aseguran que era una persona extraordinaria que tocó innumerables corazones. As a family, we are facing one of life's greatest challenges: saying goodbye to our incredible mother, Matilde Alvarez Cruz, wife, sister, daughter, and aunt. Our mother's unwavering spirit was an inspiration to us all as she bravely underwent dialysis for over 15 years. On December 7, 2024, she was airlifted from Winter Haven Hospital to St. Joseph Hospital due to a brain bleed (stroke), her second since 2017. Two weeks later, the doctors shared that they had done all they could, and she was sent back to Winter Haven Hospital. On Monday, December 30, 2024, we had a heart-to-heart family meeting with the doctor and were presented with a difficult decision: hospice was the only option. On January 1, 2025, she was transferred to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida, where she continued to inspire us with her fighting spirit. On January 3 at 2:13 am, she peacefully took her last breath, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and perseverance. For those who did not have the privilege of knowing her, many assured that she was an extraordinary individual who touched countless hearts.
