We are reaching out for help during this incredibly difficult time, as we need assistance with funeral costs to bring my grandpa back to Mexico. This was his last wish he was able to communicate with us and we are trying to make it happen. The expenses associated with repatriating the body are more than we can bear alone, and any contributions would be deeply appreciated. Your support would help us honor their memory and fulfill this final wish to return them to their home. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
On 12/23/24, I received a call from my mom stating that my estranged grandfather had been admitted to Mercy Hospital in Merced. After speaking with the nurse over the phone, we were told that we needed to make the drive to Merced if we wanted to see him one last time. Once I obtained the report from the nurses on his care team, we were informed that he was found in extremely deplorable conditions. He was initially admitted for malnutrition and was extremely emaciated. His kidneys were at 10% function, and due to the state he was found in, he was not a candidate for dialysis. They essentially told us that we needed to start making arrangements because he was failing to thrive. I initiated the process with Hospice, found a local agency, and was able to get him transferred home on 12/27/24. As the conversation of funeral arrangements arose, I asked him what his wishes are and he communicated that he wants to rest peacefully back home in Emilian Zapata, Michoacan. As we sit here, surrounding him with love and prayers, we ask our friends and family for any donations to honor his last wish.
