(My mother, Alenip Medina, was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. She went through five specialists and none managed to detect the tumor)
I am Ángel Rondón, son of Alenip Medina and today I want to share our story. At the start of the year 2019, my mother started to feel a strong pain in the right part of her abdomen. She did not think anything of it and assumed it was only temporary and that she would be fine in a matter of days, but this was not the case. In April of this year, she asked me to look at her eyes and I noticed they appeared yellow. I immediately notified her physician who then recommended a complete blood test as soon as possible. When the physician obtained the results and reviewed them she said my mother’s case was an emergency and that we should go to the hospital as soon as we could as her bilirubin levels were extremely elevated. That same day we went to the Miguel Pérez Carreño hospital where she was admitted as she would have to undergo surgery immediately for the removal of her gallbladder. Despite the urgency of the procedure, it was postponed on 3 occasions. The reason: the severe lack of supplies and crisis that affects our public hospitals. Two weeks after she was initially admitted she was finally intervened. The surgery was estimated to last three hours but, she was in the OR for only one hour. They had found a tumor located behind her gallbladder- one that was never detected on the multitude of exams done. The doctors took a biopsy of the tumor and after a few days gave us the results. Unfortunately, the results revealed that my mother was diagnosed with gallbladder and bile duct cancer. Now, to face all the expenses that these unsettling and unexpected news have incurred we are pleading for your help. My mother wishes to live and I want to help her accomplish just that and to stay with me longer. That is the reason for this campaign. With my heart on my sleeve, I plead you to help us so that she can stay with us for longer.
