Ayudame a pagar mi trasplante! Help me pay for my transplant

Hola, soy Diego. Tengo 27 años. Y esta es mi historia.

Soy un amante de música y disfruto escuchar música con mis amigos, ver música en vivo y tocar el bajo. También amo jugar futbol, subir cerros en Guanajuato, ir al gym en la mañana antes del trabajo y, en general, cualquier actividad física. También era vegetariano y llevaba un estilo de vida sano y tranquilo. Siempre me ha encantado estudiar, aprender idiomas y mis sueños siempre han estado encaminados a conocer otros lugares desde el ámbito académico. Sin embargo, eso cambio recientemente.

Hace cuatro meses fui diagnosticado con Enfermedad Renal Crónica en etapa terminal. Esto fue un gran golpe para mí, ya que implicó cambiar de la noche a la mañana todo mi estilo de vida, poner en pausa mis sueños y empezar a estar bajo mucha observación.

En octubre del año pasado un aumento abrupto en mi presión arterial me obligo a consultar con urgencia al doctor en medio de mi jornada laboral. Tras esa visita y después de algunos análisis se determinó que la causa era una afección en los riñones. Después de un ultrasonido y algunos estudios más, se me diagnosticó Enfermedad Renal Crónica en etapa terminal. ¿La causa? Desconocida. Debido al estado crítico de la enfermedad se me recomendó no perder tiempo en identificar el origen y avocarme al tratamiento recomendado: hemodiálisis. Así fue como, en tan solo una semana, supe que mis riñones estaban trabajando al 5% de su capacidad.

Al parecer, de los estudios realizados, se reveló que desechaba proteína por la orina y que el nivel de toxinas en mi cuerpo estaba por los cielos. Por fortuna, gracias a mi buen estado físico, mi cuerpo estaba resistiendo muy bien, pero eso no duraría mucho.

Es así como a mediados de noviembre de 2024 entré a quirófano para someterme a una cirugia en la que colocarían un cateter en mi corazón para empezar con el tratamiento de hemodialisis. Este es un proceso en el cual, a través de una máquina, se extrae la sangre de mi cuerpo y se filtra para eliminar las toxinas y los minerales que mi cuerpo no puede procesar. Necesito dos sesiones a la semana, cada una dura tres horas aproximadamente y son muy costosas.

Por suerte entre mi familia pudimos conseguir los recursos necesariosa para costear la operación y, por un tiempo, las hemodiálisis. Si bien hemos logrado conseguir algunos apoyos externos, la incertidumbre de mantener este tratamiento siempre esta ahí ya que es algo de por vida.

La única oportunidad de tener una vida más tranquila, sana, normal y en la que puede cumplir mis sueños como: visitar otros países, ganar una beca para estudiar en el extranjero, volver a ver a mis bandas favoritas en vivo o correr un maratón; es con un trasplante de riñón. Si bien uno de mis hermanos se ha ofrecido como donante, es compatible y ha cumplido con los requisitos para que el trasplante se lleve a cabo; el costo del mismo sigue siendo algo que no podemos costear. Por lo que vengo a pedir su apoyo.

El dinero recaudado será destinado a costear la operación del trasplante, a algunos gastos que se han realizado desde el diagnostico (como las hemodiálisis) y, en caso de tener suficiente ayuda, a pagar una parte de los gastos de la recuperación post trasplante. Toda ayuda, grande o pequeña, es bienvenida y muy significativa.

Hello, I’m Diego. I’m 27 years old. And this is my story.

I’m a music lover, and I enjoy listening to music with my friends, watching live music, and playing the bass. I also love playing soccer, hiking the hills in Guanajuato, going to the gym in the morning before work, and, in general, any physical activity. I was also a vegetarian and led a healthy and peaceful lifestyle. I’ve always loved studying, learning languages, and my dreams have always been focused on exploring other places through academia. However, that changed recently.

Four months ago, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease in its terminal stage. This was a huge blow to me, as it meant changing my entire lifestyle overnight, putting my dreams on hold, and starting to be under constant observation.

In October of last year, an abrupt increase in my blood pressure forced me to urgently consult a doctor during my workday. After that visit and some tests, it was determined that the cause was a kidney condition. After an ultrasound and several more studies, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease in its terminal stage. The cause? Unknown. Due to the critical state of the disease, I was advised not to waste time identifying the origin and to focus on the recommended treatment: hemodialysis.

That’s how, in just one week, I learned that my kidneys were working at only 5% of their capacity. Apparently, the studies revealed that I was excreting protein in my urine, and the toxin levels in my body were off the charts. Fortunately, thanks to my good physical condition, my body was coping well, but that wouldn’t last long.

That’s when, in mid-November 2024, I entered the operating room for a surgery in which a catheter would be placed in my heart to start hemodialysis treatment. This is a process where, through a machine, blood is taken from my body, filtered to remove toxins and minerals my body can’t process. I need two sessions a week, each lasting about three hours, and they are very expensive.

Luckily, my family and I were able to gather the necessary resources to afford the surgery and, for a while, the hemodialysis treatments. Although we’ve received some external support, the uncertainty of maintaining this treatment is always present, as it is a lifelong requirement.

The only chance I have to live a more peaceful, healthy, and normal life—where I can fulfill my dreams like visiting other countries, earning a scholarship to study abroad, seeing my favorite bands live again, or running a marathon—is through a kidney transplant. While one of my brothers has offered to donate, is compatible, and has met the requirements for the transplant to take place, the cost is still something we cannot afford. That’s why I’m asking for your support.

The funds raised will go towards covering the transplant surgery, some expenses incurred since the diagnosis (such as hemodialysis), and, if enough support is gathered, covering part of the post-transplant recovery expenses. Any help, big or small, is welcome and greatly appreciated.
