Hello, my name is Giovanna Garcia and I am reaching out for support during one of the toughest times in my life. I’ve recently been diagnosed with acute leukemia, and while I am staying strong, the road to recovery is long and uncertain. Due to my condition, I have been unable to work for the past two weeks and will also be unable to return to work for at least two more weeks after my treatment.

The costs of treatment, along with the financial strain of being out of work, have created a heavy burden on my family. I am a wife and a mother of 2 kids under 4 years, and any support, whether it’s through a donation or by sharing this story, would mean the world to us.

Hola, mi nombre es Giovanna Garcia y estoy buscando apoyo durante uno de los momentos más difíciles de mi vida. Recientemente me diagnosticaron leucemia aguda, y aunque me mantengo fuerte, el camino hacia la recuperación es largo e incierto. Debido a mi condición, he estado sin trabajar las últimas dos semanas y también estaré sin trabajar al menos otras dos semanas después de mi tratamiento.

Los costos del tratamiento, junto con la carga financiera de estar fuera del trabajo, han creado una carga pesada para mi familia. Actualización - 28 de febrero de 2025

Ayer tuve que ser ingresada de emergencia en el Hospital Victoria, un día antes de mi cita con el doctor. Se suponía que hoy me dirían cuándo comenzaría la quimioterapia agresiva (mañana), pero mi vía principal, llamada PICC, parece estar infectada.

Aparentemente, hay coágulos alrededor de la vía y la sangre está causando infecciones. Esto me ha hecho sentir más cansada de lo normal y, además, me ha provocado una reacción alérgica que hace que todo mi cuerpo me pique. Hoy la espera en emergencia fue larga—Juan me dejó a las 8 PM y recién vi al doctor a las 4 AM, cuando comenzaron los análisis de sangre. Me dieron algo de comer recién a las 9 AM. El sistema funciona, pero hay muchas cosas que deberían mejorar, especialmente cuando se trata de pacientes con cáncer.

Pero incluso en los momentos difíciles, siempre hay algo que aprender. Ahora mismo, me toca aprender a quejarme no con la intención de molestar a los demás, sino de pensar en mí y en mi bienestar.

Por ahora, estoy con antibióticos intravenosos y anticoagulantes, y esperando la crema para la picazón.

Update - February 28, 2025

Yesterday, I had to be admitted to Victoria Hospital unexpectedly, a day before my scheduled doctor’s appointment. I was supposed to find out today when I would start my aggressive chemotherapy (tomorrow), but my main IV line, called a PICC, appears to be infected.

Apparently, there are clots around the line, and the blood is causing infections. This has made me feel even more exhausted than usual and has triggered an allergic reaction that makes my whole body itch. Today, the wait in the emergency room was long—Juan dropped me off at 8 PM, and I waited until 4 AM to see a doctor and start blood tests. I finally got something to eat at 9 AM. The system works, but there are definitely things that need improvement, especially when treating a cancer patient.

But even in difficult moments, there is always something to learn. Right now, I need to learn how to advocate for myself—not to be a burden to others, but to prioritize my own well-being.

For now, I’m receiving IV antibiotics and blood thinners, and I’m waiting for a cream to help with the itching.

Ayer recibí mi primera quimioterapia y oficialmente he comenzado mi tratamiento con Glam-Ida. Estaré en el hospital por seis semanas para esta primera fase, con la esperanza de que todo salga bien.

Debido a la intensidad del tratamiento, lo más probable es que no pueda trabajar por aproximadamente un año, lo que hace que el apoyo de esta campaña sea aún más crucial para mí y mi familia en este momento.

Quiero agradecer de corazón a todos los que me han apoyado en este proceso. Su ayuda y mensajes de aliento significan muchísimo para nosotros.

Important Update! 16/March/2025

Yesterday, I received my first chemotherapy session and have officially started my treatment with Glam-Ida. I will be in the hospital for six weeks for this first phase, hoping that everything goes well.

Due to the intensity of the treatment, I will most likely be unable to work for about a year, which makes the support from this campaign even more crucial for me and my family at this time.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me throughout this process. Your help and words of encouragement mean so much to us.
