Ayuda urgente para Gualberto: reconstruir su pierna y su vida

Quiero compartir la historia de mi tio, Gualberto Carreón Sánchez, un hombre trabajador, alegre y lleno de vida, que hoy lucha por recuperar no solo su salud, sino también su independencia. Gualberto vive en Veracruz, México, y en octubre del año pasado sufrió un trágico accidente que cambió su vida para siempre.

Mientras conducía su motocicleta, una camioneta lo atropelló brutalmente y se dio a la fuga, dejándolo inconsciente y abandonado en medio de la carretera. Afortunadamente, personas que pasaban por ahí lo auxiliaron y llamaron a los paramédicos. Gracias a ellos, Gualberto sobrevivió… pero su cuerpo quedó devastado.

Las heridas fueron múltiples y graves: 4 costillas fracturadas, un pulmón perforado, riñones colapsados y con hematomas, inflamación cerebral, heridas en todo el cuerpo, y lo más delicado: su pierna derecha sufrió una fractura expuesta en tibia y peroné, con pérdida de hueso, tejido y sangre, dejando parte del pie prácticamente deshecho.

Fue intervenido de urgencia, se le realizó una toracocentesis para salvar su pulmón y posteriormente una cirugía para intentar reconstruir su pierna. Le colocaron clavos, placas de titanio y matriz ósea sintética. Sin embargo, los materiales no fueron los adecuados y su cuerpo no los aceptó bien, lo que causó una infección severa que ahora pone en riesgo el hueso. Si esta infección llega a propagarse más, las consecuencias podrían ser irreversibles.

Ahora necesita una segunda cirugía mucho más compleja y costosa, que no está cubierta por el seguro público, ni tampoco cuentan con los materiales necesarios. Por eso, hoy recurrimos a esta plataforma y a tu generosidad, con la esperanza de poder reunir al menos una parte de los $10,000 dólares que necesitamos con urgencia para su operación.

La vida de Gualberto y de toda su familia ha cambiado drásticamente. Él era el sustento del hogar. Ahora, mi tia y sus hijas, que aún son estudiantes han tenido que trabajar para sobrevivir, ganando apenas 50 dólares a la semana. Esta situación ha sido devastadora no solo en lo económico, sino también en lo emocional. Gualberto pasó de ser un hombre fuerte, independiente y lleno de energía, a depender completamente de otros para las actividades más básicas como comer, bañarse, ir al baño, o incluso sentarse.

Antes del accidente, era un hombre activo, entusiasta, deportista, que amaba bailar, trabajar y vivir intensamente. Hoy, su mayor anhelo es volver a caminar, recuperar un poco de lo que era, de lo que amaba hacer.

Urgent help for Gualberto: rebuilding his leg and his life

I would like to share the story of my uncle, Gualberto Carreon Sanchez, a hard working man, joyful and full of life, who is now fighting to recuperate not only to his health, but his independence. Gualberto lives in Veracruz, México, and in October of last year he suffered a tragic accident that changed his life forever.

While he was riding his motorcycle, he was part of a hit and run, where he was brutally hurt by a pick up truck, being abandoned and unconscious in the middle of the road. Fortunately, people passing through that road helped him out and called the paramedics to take him to a hospital. Thanks to them, Gualberto survived... but his body was left devastated.

He had multiple serious injuries: 4 fractured ribs, a punctured lung, bruised and collapsed kidneys, swelling of the brain, bruises all over his body and the most damaged part: his right leg suffered a fracture that left his tibia and fibula exposed, also losing some bone mass, leg tissue and blood, leaving part of his leg basically useless.

He was treated in emergency care, where he had to undergo a thoracentesis to save his lung as well as surgery to try and rebuild his leg. They placed nails, titanium plates and a synthetic bona matrix. Unfortunately, the materials used were not the correct ones, and thus were not accepted by his body, leading to a severe infection that puts the bones in jeopardy. If this infection spreads more, the consequences could be irreversible.

He now needs a second, more complex and expensive surgery that's not covered by public insurance, nor do they cover the necessary materials. That's why today we've come to this site and your generosity, with hopes to raise at least part of the $10,000 that we urgently need to operate him.

Gualberto's life and that of his family's has taken a drastic turn. He was the breadwinner of the family. And now, my aunt and her daughters, who are both still in school, have had to work to survive, only making about $50 a week. This situation has been devastating, not just financially, but emotionally. Gualberto went from being a strong, independent man full of life to completely depending on others for the most basic of activities like eating, bathing, using the restroom, even just sitting.

Prior to the accident, he was an active man, enthusiastic, sporty, who loved to dance, work and live with fervor. Now, his greatest wish is to be able to walk again, recover a bit of who he was and what he loved to do.
