A sus 20 años está luchando contra el cáncer, Maria Gabriela tiene un 90% de probabilidad de curarse. Si el cáncer es tratado a tiempo, solo le falta el tratamiento.

Mi nombre es Freddy, y hoy tengo la responsabilidad de escribir sobre el difícil capítulo que estamos enfrentando.

Mi hermana, María Gabriela Leal Valera, de tan solo 20 años que hasta hace poco estaba haciendo planes, riéndose con sus amigos, soñando con su futuro… hoy está luchando contra un Linfoma de Hodgkin, un tumor en el tórax que presiona su corazón y estructuras vitales corre el riesgo de perder la vida de no ser tratada a tiempo.

Los médicos dijeron algo que nos da fuerza todos los días:

por su edad y por el tipo de cáncer, si recibe el tratamiento correcto de inmediato, María Gabriela tiene una probabilidad muy alta, entre 80% y 90%, de curarse.

Pero también nos dijeron la urgencia:

Si el tratamiento no empieza de inmediato, esas probabilidades se van apagando con el tiempo.

María Gabriela necesita un tratamiento de quimioterapia e inmunoterapia con Opdivo (Nivolumab), una dosis cada 15 días por 12 sesiones y cada sesión con gastos de traslados ronda los $5.000 lo que hace un total de $60.000. Es lo que puede frenar el tumor que está presionando su tórax y darle la oportunidad real de seguir viva y sana.

Nos duele admitirlo, pero en Venezuela no tenemos los recursos para pagar esto solos. El costo en dólares es demasiado alto para nuestra realidad, y mientras buscamos ayuda, el reloj no se detiene.

Por eso hemos creado esta campaña.

¿Para qué se usará cada aporte? Nuestra meta es recaudar $60.000, que irán única y exclusivamente a:

• Sesiones de inmunoterapia (Opdivo / Nivolumab): el tratamiento que le da a María Gabriela esa oportunidad del 80–90% de curación si se aplica a tiempo.

• Exámenes médicos y estudios de control antes y durante el tratamiento, para vigilar el tumor en el mediastino y cómo responde su cuerpo.

• Medicamentos complementarios para manejar efectos secundarios y proteger su salud durante el proceso.

• Gastos médicos de emergencia que puedan surgir por la compresión en el tórax (dificultad respiratoria, dolor, complicaciones inesperadas).

My name is Freddy, and today I have the hard job of writing about the chapter our family is going through.

My sister, María Gabriela Leal Valera, is only 20. Not long ago she was making plans, laughing with her friends, dreaming about her future… and today she’s fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a tumor in her chest that is pressing on her heart and other vital structures. If she is not treated in time, her life is at risk.

The doctors told us something that gives us strength every single day:

Because of her age and this type of cancer, if she gets the right treatment immediately, María Gabriela has a very high chance -between 80% and 90% - of being cured.

But they also made the urgency very clear:

If treatment doesn’t start right away, those chances slowly begin to fade.

María Gabriela needs a treatment plan that includes chemotherapy and immunotherapy with Opdivo (nivolumab) — one dose every 15 days for 12 sessions. Each session, including transportation and related costs, is about $5,000, for a total of $60,000.

This is the treatment that can stop the tumor that’s pressing on her chest and give her a real chance to live — healthy and cancer-free.

It hurts to admit it, but in Venezuela my parents simply cannot afford it on our own. The cost in dollars is far beyond their reality, and while we look for help, the clock keeps ticking.
