Hello, my name is Eduardo Javier Farías Marcano, I’m 30 years old, a graphic designer, and Venezuelan. Today, I come to you with my heart in my hands to ask for help for myself and my mother, Dodanys María Marcano, a 58-year-old pediatric nurse, with whom I emigrated to Ecuador in search of a better life.

We arrived on December 10, 2018, full of hope. But that same day, my mother fell gravely ill. She experienced severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and fainting, which led to an emergency cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal). This surgery marked the beginning of a medical nightmare.

My mom was hospitalized for over 9 months—3 of them in an induced coma in intensive care, and the remaining 6 bedridden, with no muscle mass, fed through a tube, and facing a devastating diagnosis:

•Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

•Autoimmune Hepatitis

•Primary Biliary Cholangitis

•Sjögren’s Syndrome

•Antiphospholipid Syndrome

Even today, nearly 7 years later, she continues to suffer from vomiting, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and extreme fatigue. She’s unable to work. Nor can I, as I’ve become her full-time caregiver. I also suffer from severe fibromyalgia, triggered by stress, poor nutrition, and physical exhaustion during her hospitalization.

Why are we asking for your help?

•We urgently need support to cover:

•Specialized medical consultations.

•Lab tests, endoscopy, and brain MRI.

•Weekly medications for both of us.

•Legal assistance to regularize our immigration status.

•A special travel permit so my mother can fly on an airplane.

•Our return to Venezuela to reunite with family.

Ayuda urgente para Eduardo y su mamá enferma – Migrantes venezolanos en Ecuador

Hola, mi nombre es Eduardo Javier Farías Marcano, tengo 30 años y soy diseñador gráfico, venezolano. Hoy acudo a ti con el corazón en la mano para pedir ayuda para mí y para mi madre, Dodanys María Marcano, licenciada en enfermería pediátrica de 58 años, con quien emigré a Ecuador en busca de una vida mejor.

Llegamos el 10 de diciembre de 2018, llenos de esperanza, pero ese mismo día, mi madre se enfermó gravemente. Presentó fuertes dolores abdominales, vómitos y desmayos, lo que la llevó a una colecistectomía de urgencia (extirpación de vesícula). Esta cirugía fue el inicio de una pesadilla médica.

Mi mamá estuvo más de 9 meses hospitalizada, 3 de ellos en terapia intensiva inducida en coma, y los otros 6 postrada, sin masa muscular, alimentada por sonda y con un diagnóstico devastador:

• Lupus Eritematoso Sistémico (LES)

• Hepatitis autoinmune

• Colangitis biliar primaria

• Síndrome de Sjögren

• Síndrome antifosfolípido

Aún hoy, casi 7 años después, sigue sufriendo vómitos, fiebre, diarreas, dolor abdominal y fatiga extrema. No puede trabajar. Yo tampoco, ya que me convertí en su cuidador, y además padezco fibromialgia severa, producto del estrés, la mala alimentación y el agotamiento físico durante su hospitalización.

¿Por qué pedimos tu ayuda?

Necesitamos apoyo urgente para cubrir:

• Consultas médicas especializadas.

• Exámenes de laboratorio, gastroscopía y resonancia cerebral.

• Medicamentos semanales para ella y para mí.

• Regularizar nuestra situación migratoria.

• Obtener un salvoconducto para que mi madre pueda viajar en avión.

• Regresar a Venezuela con nuestra familia.
