Hola, mi nombre es Miguel, tengo 33 años y vivo en Guadalajara, México.

El 11 de diciembre fui diagnosticado con melanoma coroideo, un tipo de cáncer ocular poco común que crece debajo de la retina. En mi caso, el tumor ya provocó un desprendimiento de retina y, si no se trata a tiempo, puede extenderse a órganos como el hígado o los pulmones.

Mi doctora me explicó que es urgente actuar para frenar el crecimiento del tumor y reducir el riesgo de metástasis.

Mi ojo derecho es mi único ojo funcional.

Desde la infancia, mi ojo izquierdo es ambliope (“ojo perezoso”) y no tiene visión útil, es una condición neurológica que no tiene tratamiento.

Eso significa que todo lo que hago como leer, trabajar o moverme con independencia depende de mi ojo derecho.

Soy arquitecto y mi pasatiempo favorito es pintar, mi trabajo se desarrolla principalmente con la vista. Perder este ojo significaría quedar prácticamente ciego y perder mi capacidad de trabajar y de ser independiente.

Mi médica tratante me ofreció dos alternativas:

1: Enucleación (retirar el ojo completo): es más económica, pero en mi caso me dejaría completamente ciego.

2: Radioterapia ocular: es la única opción que puede salvar mi ojo y mi visión.

La radioterapia es el camino que necesito seguir, pero el costo supera por mucho nuestras posibilidades y mi medico tratante nos informó que esta cirugía actualmente no la ofrece ninguna institución pública.

El costo del tratamiento más económico recomendado por la doctora es de más de $509,349 MXN

He puesto todos mis ahorros, mi familia también, pero aún así no alcanzamos el monto. Para intentarlo, mis padres tendrían que endeudarse y desprenderse de bienes que son su único respaldo económico lo que nos dejaría a todos en alta vulnerabilidad futura.

Estamos haciendo todo lo posible por nuestra cuenta, pero no podemos lograrlo solos.

Este tratamiento no puede esperar ya que cada semana cuenta para reducir el riesgo de que el cáncer crezca o se propague. El tiempo que tarde en reunir el dinero puede marcar una diferencia real en mi salud, mi visión y mi futuro.

Cualquier apoyo, como donar o simplemente compartir significa más de lo que puedo expresar.

Hello, my name is Miguel I am 33 years old and I live in Guadalajara, Mexico.

On December 11th, I was diagnosed with choroidal melanoma, a rare type of eye cancer that grows beneath the retina. In my case, the tumor has already caused a retinal detachment and, if not treated in time, it can spread to organs such as my liver or lungs.

My doctor explained to me that it is urgent to act in order to stop the tumor’s growth and reduce the risk of metastasis.

My right eye is my only functional eye.

Since childhood, my left eye has been amblyopic (“lazy eye”) and does not provide useful vision, it is a neurological condition that has no treatment.

This means that everything I do like reading, working, or moving independently, depends entirely on my right eye.

I am an architect, and my favorite hobby is painting. My work relies heavily on vision. Losing this eye would mean being practically blind and losing my ability to work and live independently.

My treating physician offered me two options:

Enucleation (removal of the entire eye): it is less expensive, but in my case it would leave me completely blind.

Ocular radiotherapy: it is the only option that can save my eye and my vision.

Radiotherapy is the path I need to follow, but the cost is far beyond our financial means, and my doctor informed us that this procedure is currently not offered by any public institution.

The cost of the most affordable treatment is over $509,349 MXN. ($28,298 USD.)

I have put in all my savings, my family has done the same, and even then we could not reach the required amount. To try to cover it, my parents would have to go into debt and give up assets that are their only financial support, and even that would not be enough.

We are doing everything we can on our own, but we cannot do it alone.

This treatment cannot wait.

Every week counts to reduce the risk of the cancer progressing or spreading. The time it takes to raise the funds can make a real difference in my health, my vision, and my future.
