My name is Luis, and I never imagined I would have to ask for help this way, but today I do so for my family and especially for my younger siblings.

Since last year, my life has changed completely. My mother and my stepfather were detained on the same day while they were on their way to work, even though my mother had a valid driver’s license and work permit. Despite this, they were both detained. My stepfather was deported almost immediately, and my mother remained in detention for more than three months before being deported at the beginning of 2026, even though she had an immigration case in progress. From that moment on, our family was torn apart.

Today, I am alone in the United States. Although I am legally an adult, I was suddenly forced to take on an overwhelming responsibility. I became the caregiver for my younger siblings, including a baby. Every day, I do everything I can to care for them, protect them, and keep them safe. We have been surviving on the small savings my family had, but those funds are now exhausted.

This has not been easy. There are days filled with fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty, but giving up is not an option. I am doing everything in my power to reunite the baby with my parents. I know this means sending him to a country he does not know, but due to his age and for his safety, there is no other secure option right now. This process also involves significant transportation and logistical costs to ensure the baby can travel safely.

I am humbly asking for support. This fundraiser will help cover basic necessities such as food, transportation, and housing—especially because we have been asked to vacate our current home by the end of this month. I am able and willing to work, and my goal is to continue caring for my siblings, support their education, and keep our family stable during this incredibly difficult time.

Mi nombre es Luis y nunca imaginé tener que pedir ayuda de esta manera, pero hoy lo hago por mi familia y, especialmente, por mis hermanos menores.

Desde el año pasado, mi vida cambió por completo. Mi mamá y mi padrastro fueron detenidos el mismo día mientras iban juntos al trabajo, a pesar de que mi mamá contaba con licencia de conducir y permiso de trabajo vigentes. Aun así, ambos fueron detenidos. Mi padrastro fue deportado casi de inmediato, y mi mamá permaneció detenida durante más de tres meses antes de ser deportada a principios de 2026, aunque tenía un proceso migratorio en curso. Desde ese momento, nuestra familia quedó completamente separada.

Hoy me encuentro solo en Estados Unidos. Aunque legalmente soy mayor de edad, de un momento a otro tuve que asumir una responsabilidad abrumadora. Me convertí en el cuidador de mis hermanos menores, entre ellos un bebé. Cada día hago todo lo posible por cuidarlos, protegerlos y mantenerlos a salvo. Hemos estado sobreviviendo con los pocos ahorros que mi familia tenía, pero esos recursos ya se han agotado.

No ha sido fácil. Hay días llenos de miedo, cansancio e incertidumbre, pero rendirme no es una opción. Estoy haciendo todo lo que está en mis manos para que el bebé pueda reunirse con mis padres. Sé que esto significa enviarlo a un país que no conoce, pero por su edad y por su seguridad, no existe otra opción segura en este momento. Este proceso también implica gastos importantes de transporte y logística para que el bebé pueda viajar de manera segura.

Hoy pido apoyo con mucha humildad. Esta recaudación busca ayudarnos a cubrir necesidades básicas como alimentos, transporte y vivienda, especialmente porque nos han pedido desocupar el lugar donde vivimos a finales de este mes. Yo puedo y quiero trabajar. Mi meta es seguir cuidando a mis hermanos, apoyar su educación y mantener a nuestra familia estable durante este momento tan difícil.
