Luis Martinez passed away from COVID-19 June 18, 2020 at the age of 41, just weeks after he and his partner Janeth welcomed the birth of their son.
Luis lived part of his life in Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, making his way to Northern California in adulthood. He met his partner, Janeth, in Los Cabos, Mexico.They decided to start a new life together, along with Janeth's young daughter, and moved to Tijuana, Mexico in 2017. Luis commuted to San Diego daily, working at a local bank and as an Uber/Lyft driver.
The couple decided to have a child and welcomed their first son to the world on April 6, 2020. Two weeks after his son's birth, Luis was admitted to a hospital in Tijuana and subsequently transferred to San Diego for care. A day after being admitted to a hospital in San Diego, Luis was intubated and never awoke. His condition deteriorated and he came to his untimely death on June 18, 2020 (just three days short of Father's day).
The day before his death, once doctors informed the family of Luis’s worsening condition, Janeth attempted to cross the border from Tijuana to San Diego to be with Luis during his final hours. With a letter in hand from the hospital stating that this was an end of life situation, the border patrol agent denied her entry into the country. Janeth was never able to say goodbye to Luis.
While Luis was awaiting the birth of his first child, he spoke fondly of his family’s future. Janeth and Luis planned to get married after the birth and were looking forward to buying a home. Now, sadly, Janeth and her children are left without Luis’s company and support, and Janeth is left with two children to raise on her own in Mexico.
Luis was a confident, kind, and very charismatic person and was the youngest of three brothers. Luis leaves behind his parents, Tomas and Josefina, two brothers, Alex and Tomas, and countless friends and family members who will miss him dearly.
In times like this, it's important for those of us who can to come together and help those who Luis loved. These funds will be transferred to Janeth and to Luis’s parents so they can cover expenses during this heartbreaking period. In addition, another portion of these funds will be used to help Janeth provide for her children going forward. Including using funds to setup a college fund and cover legal fees to obtain USA citizenship for Luis's son.

Luis Martínez falleció de COVID-19 el 18 de junio de 2020 a la edad de 41 años, pocas semanas después de él nacimiento de hijo.
Luis vivió parte de su vida en Mexico, Texas, y Oklahoma, haciendo su camino al norte de California. Conoció a su pareja, Janeth, en Los Cabos, México. Decidieron comenzar una nueva vida juntos, y con la hija pequeña de Janeth, se mudaron a Tijuana, México en 2017. Luis viajaba a San Diego todos los días, trabajando en un banco local y como conductor de Uber/Lyft.
La pareja decidió tener un hijo y dio la bienvenida a su primer hijo el 6 de abril de 2020. Dos semanas después del nacimiento de su hijo, Luis fue ingresado en un hospital en Tijuana y posteriormente trasladado a San Diego para recibir atención. Un día después de ser ingresado en un hospital en San Diego, Luis fue intubado y nunca despertó. Su condición se deterioró y llegó a su muerte prematura el 18 de junio de 2020 (sólo tres días antes del día del Padre).
El día antes de su muerte, una vez que los médicos informaron a la familia del empeoramiento de la condición de Luis, Janeth intentó cruzar la frontera de Tijuana a San Diego para estar con Luis durante sus últimas horas. Con una carta en la mano del hospital que indicaba que se trataba de una situación de fin de vida, el agente de la patrulla fronteriza negó su entrada a el país. Janeth nunca pudo despedirse de Luis.
Mientras Luis esperaba el nacimiento de su primer hijo, hablaba con cariño del futuro de su familia. Janeth y Luis planeaban casarse después del nacimiento y tenian contemplado comprar una casa. Ahora, lamentablemente, Janeth y sus hijos se quedan sin la compañía y el apoyo de Luis, y Janeth se queda con dos hijos para criar por su cuenta en México.
Luis era confiado, cariñoso, y muy carismático y era el menor de tres hermanos. Luis deja atrás a sus padres, Tomás y Josefina, dos hermanos, Alex y Tomás, y un sinnúmero de amigos y familiares que lo extrañarán mucho.
En tiempos como éste, es importante para aquellos de nosotros que podemos unirnos, ayudar a los que Luis amaba. Estos fondos serán transferidos a Janeth y a los padres de Luis para que puedan cubrir los gastos durante este desgarrador período. Otra parte de estos fondos se utilizará para ayudar a Janeth a proveer para sus hijos en el futuro. Por ejemplo, si hay fondos disponibles, se utilizarán para establecer un fondo universitario y cubrir honorarios legales que la familia tendrá al registrar a el hijo de Luis como cuidadano americano.
