On October 18th, 18 year old Estela Hernández Bamaca passed away along with her unborn baby Katherine Hernández whom she was 8 months pregnant with.
We are asking for donations to help ship her and the baby back to Guatemala so that she may be laid to rest with her family close by. Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of the Bamaca family, her older brother Edgar wanted to share a few words:

My sister Estela was a very happy and humble girl. She came to the United States from Guatemala at the age of 16 with many goals and dreams she wanted to fulfill. She enjoyed school and was studying often. At 2 months pregnant, Estela made the long trek to the US in hopes that she could provide a better future for her baby daughter whom she had chosen the name Katherine Hernández.  Estela awaited for the arrival of her baby whom she was so excited to meet and loved so much already.

Unfortunately, the life of my sister and her baby was sadly cut short in this world. At 10 PM on Monday October 18th, 5 days after Estela’s 18th Birthday, she suddenly collapsed in her bathroom floor unconscious. I found her in this state and dialed 911. When the paramedics came they tried to resuscitate her but she was unresponsive and they rushed her to the hospital. Once there, doctors did an emergency C-section in an attempt to save the baby. Meanwhile the baby was moved to the NICU, doctors did several studies where they concluded that Estela could not be saved. Estela had suffered an aneurysm in her brain which ruptured and caused her to have a brain hemorrhage. This then led her going into cardiac arrest. As a result of the brain swelling, it meant that Estela would never be able to regain consciousness and her brain would be unable to function. On Friday October 22nd, we made the difficult decision to disconnect Estela and she was pronounced dead at 11:46 AM.

As for baby Katherine, she was born unconscious and went into a coma at birth. Doctors determined that she too was brain dead. Katherine Hernández was disconnected 3 days after her mother, on Monday October 25th.

We are completely crippled by our grief. With all our hearts, we are asking for any help with donations. We would like to send my little sister and niece back to Guatemala so that she may be laid to rest as she deserves with her family close by.

Hola, mi nombre es Eloida, y estoy ayudando a Edgar Hernandez Bamaca a recaudar fondos para el entierro de su hermana, Estela Hernandez Bamaca y sobrina Katherine Hernandez. Están son unas palabras de Edgar:

“Mi hermana Estela era una muchacha muy alegre, humilde y le encantaba estudiar. Ella se vino a Los Estados Unidos, desde Guatemala, a los 17 años con muchas metas y sueños que deseaba cumplir. Ella embarazada, también quería un futuro mejor para su hija, Katherine Hernández, la cual esperaba la llegada de su bebé con mucho amor y entusiasmo. Lamentablemente la vida de mi hermana y su bebé fue muy corto en este mundo. El día Lunes 18 de Octubre, a las 10 PM Estela, teniendo sólo 6 meses de amber llegado a los Estados Unidos y 8 meses de embarazo, se desmallo y perdió la conciencia. Yo la encontré en ese estado y llamé al 911. Cuando llego la ayuda le hicieron los primeros auxilios a Estela pero no reaccionó. La llevaron al hospital General en San Francisco donde le hicieron la cesaría de emergencia para salvar la bebé. Después de la cesaría, los doctores le hicieron varios estudios donde el resultado final era que ya no se podía salvar a mi hermana. Ella había tenido una aneurisma en su cerebro lo cual se rompió y hizo que tuviera una hemorragia cerebral. Esto causó que tuviera un paro cardíaco lo que causó el desarrollo de un hinchazón difusa cerebral. Esta hinchazón cerebral significa que nunca recuperó la conciencia y que su cerebro no pudo funcionar. Por esta razón fue declarada muerta, debido a la muerte cerebral. El Viernes 22 de Octubre tuvimos que desconectar a Estela y ella fue declarada muerta a las 11:46 AM. La bebé de mi hermana nació inconsciente y entró en coma al nacer. Los estudios de los doctores determinaron que ella también tenía muerte cerebral. Mi sobrina Katherine fue desconectada el Lunes 25 de Octubre. Suplicando, tocando sus corazones, si nos pueden ayudar a mandar a mi hermana y sobrina a Guatemala. Sus contribuciones serán muy apreciados.”
