Diagnóstico e Invisibilización de Fibromialgia

Hace algunos años atrás, me diagnosticaron fibromialgia. Tengo fibromialgia y todo lo que esta situación especial conlleva. La fibromialgia es un trastorno caracterizado por dolor musculoesquelético generalizado, acompañado de fatiga, problemas de sueño, colon irritable, migrañas, etc., etc.

Requiere diagnóstico médico. En mi caso, me lo diagnosticó mi reumatóloga (el Seguro Social no atinaba). Tuve dos crisis hospitalarias por dolores de cabeza muy fuertes acompañados por el dolor generalizado.

Una frase muy común para los pacientes con fibromialgia es: “Me duele todo”.

Si bien el tratamiento puede ayudar, esta condición no tiene cura. Rara vez en los estudios (análisis de laboratorio o imágenes) refleja la enfermedad. Puede durar años o toda la vida.

En mi caso, hace dos años, me diagnosticaron neutropenia. Siendo una enfermedad autoinmune, las defensas pueden bajar fácilmente y provocar alteración sanguínea que ocasiona anemia. Entonces yo tengo todo eso. Por lo que aumenté un profesional en el staff de mis médicos: un hematólogo.

La causa de la fibromialgia es aún desconocida. Es resultado de altos niveles de ansiedad. Para que tengan una idea haré una analogía: para un paciente con fibromialgia cuando, por ejemplo, se rompió un vaso, equivale a que se rompió en pedazos una vajilla. Así mismo.

Gracias a mi Dios he aprendido, y sigo en el proceso, de vivir y lidiar con ella. Trato de hacerme amiga de la fibromialgia. No me etiqueta para nada.

Sin embargo, es una enfermedad que aquí, en Ecuador, no se visibiliza. Existe un proyecto de ley presentado a la Asamblea Nacional para que sea considerada como enfermedad discapacitante, pero sigue pendiente. Por lo que todo lo que tenemos que hacer y adquirir, como paciente de fibromialgia, sale de nuestro bolsillo. Además, no hay amparo ante el Seguro Social.

Retos Laborales, Emprendimiento Cerrado

Hace 4 años, renuncié a mi trabajo y emprendí un negocio durante la pandemia, ML: Manos Limpias, por Mónica Lorena. Un proyecto de limpieza de hogares que iba creciendo, gracias a Dios. Sin embargo, hace un mes, lo tuve que cerrar. La realidad económica y de inseguridad en Guayaquil me obligó a tomar la decisión. No pude controlar situaciones externas y mi salud física ya empezaba a afectarse por la ansiedad y el estrés.

En estos momentos, me encuentro en el proceso para calificarme por discapacidad, por una artrosis lumbar progresiva, ya que por fibromialgia no aplica. Debido a mi trayectoria como profesional, cuento con el número de imposiciones para una jubilación anticipada. Como mi creencia en Dios y a Dios es muy firme, estoy convencida que algo saldrá. Pero mientras se dé el proceso, mis medicinas, evaluaciones, y citas médicas continúan.

Mi comunidad hermosa, mi familia, siempre están conmigo. Mis hijos son mi principal apoyo y motor en todo aspecto (moral, económico, afectivo), pero mis gastos son elevados y se salen del presupuesto familiar. Y conseguir un trabajo en Guayaquil a mi edad, que respete mi discapacidad invisible, se ha hecho imposible.

Todo se controla, pero el dinero juega el papel más importante. Con la sinceridad y verdad que me caracteriza, mi nombre avala lo dicho, pido con mucha humildad y agradecimiento anticipado apoyo económico para continuar y seguir sosteniendo mi camino con la bendición de Dios. Sé que pasaré este pequeño bache, y mi actitud, que me ayuda muchísimo, continuará firme, creyéndole a Dios y siempre agradecida.

Hello everyone.

I will be brief. I will try to be.

Diagnosis and Invisibilization of Fibromyalgia

Some years ago, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I suffer from fibromyalgia and all that this special situation involves. Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by generalized muscoskeletal pain, accompanied by fatigue, sleep issues, irritable colon, migraines, etc., etc.

It requires a medical diagnosis. In my case, my rheumatologist diagnosed it (Social Security couldn't figure it out). I had two hospitalization crises due to very strong headaches accompanied by generalized pain.

A very common phrase for patients with fibromyalgia is: "Everything hurts."

While treatment can help, this condition does not have a cure. Rarely do studies (laboratory or image exams) show the illness. It can last years or for one's entire life.

In my case, two years ago, I was diagnosed with neutropenia. Being an autoimmune disease, defenses can easily come down and lead to blood alterations that cause anemia. So I have all that. And so I added another medical professional to the staff of my doctors: a hematologist.

The cause of fibromyalgia is still unknown. It is the result of high levels of anxiety. So you have an idea, I will make an analogy: for a patient with fibromyalgia when, for example, a glass breaks, it equals to a dish breaking into pieces. Just like that.

Thanks to my God I have learned, and I am still learning, to live and cope with it. I try to become friends with fibromyalgia. It doesn't define me.

However, it is a disease that here, in Ecuador, is not visibilized. There is a bill presented to the National Assembly so that it is considered as a disabling disease, but it is still pending. Because of this, everything that we have to do and purchase, as fibromyalgia patients, comes out of pocket. Plus, there is no relief with Social Security.

Employment Challenges, Closed Entrepreneurship

Four years ago, I quit my job and began a business during the pandemic. ML: Manos Limpias (Clean Hands), by Mónica Lorena. A cleaning project of homes that was growing, thank God. However, a month ago, I had to close it down. The economic and insecurity reality of Guayaquil forced me to make that decision. I could not control external situations and my physical health began to be affected by anxiety and stress.

Currently, I am in the process of qualifying for disability, due to a progressive lumbar arthrosis, since fibromyalgia does not apply. Given my trajectory as a professional, I have enough contributions for an early retirement. Because my belief in God and towards God is very firm, I am convinced that something will come out of this. But while the process is pending, my medicine, exams, and medical appointments continue.

My beautiful community, my family, is always with me. My children are my main support and driver in every way (moral, economic, affective), but my expenses are elevated and go beyond the family budget. And getting a job in Guayaquil at my age, that respects my invisible disability, has become impossible.

Everything can be controlled, but money plays the most important role. With the sincerity and truth that characterize me, my name supports this, I ask with humility and gratitude economic support to continue and keep sustaining my path with God's blessing. I know that I will overcome this small pothole, and my attitude, that has helped me a lot, will stay firm, believing in God and always grateful.
