Historia de mi madre

A mediados de este año, mi madre fue diagnosticada con cáncer de colon en etapa 1, una noticia que tomó por sorpresa a toda nuestra familia. Después de múltiples citas médicas y exámenes, finalmente fue sometida a una cirugía para remover la masa cancerígena en el colon. Gracias a Dios, la operación fue un éxito y no presentó complicaciones. En ese momento creímos que esta pesadilla había llegado a su fin, especialmente porque las estadísticas médicas indicaban que el 95% de los pacientes en etapa 1 entran en remisión tras una cirugía exitosa.

Sin embargo, tras un examen de seguimiento llamado Natera, los resultados mostraron niveles elevados de células cancerígenas que, lamentablemente, se duplicaron al mes siguiente. Luego de nuevos estudios, los médicos confirmaron que el cáncer había hecho metástasis en el hígado y avanzando más rápido de lo esperado.

A pesar de ser un caso poco común,ya que solo un pequeño porcentaje de pacientes en su etapa desarrollan metástasis, mi madre ha enfrentado esta nueva etapa con mucha fortaleza. En los próximos días comenzará su tratamiento de quimioterapia, lo que le ha impedido continuar trabajando y generando ingresos.

My Mother’s Story 

 In the middle of this year, my mother was diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer, news that took our entire family by surprise. After multiple medical appointments and tests, she underwent surgery to remove the cancerous mass in her colon. Thank God, the operation was a success and there were no complications. At that moment, we believed this nightmare had come to an end, especially since medical statistics show that 95% of patients diagnosed at stage 1 go into remission after successful surgery. However, a few weeks later, a follow-up test called Natera revealed elevated levels of cancer cells, which unfortunately doubled the following month. After further studies, doctors confirmed that the cancer had metastasized to her liver and was progressing faster than expected. Although this is a rare case, since only a small percentage of patients at her stage develop metastasis,my mother has faced this new challenge with incredible strength. In the coming days, she will begin chemotherapy treatment, which has made it impossible for her to continue working and earning income.
