La historia de Juan

Juan siempre fue el hermano cariñoso, el que me hacía reír, el que se escapaba del trabajo para venir a verme actuar cuando era niña, el que me llenaba de cojines por miedo a que me cayese sentada en la cama. Ese era él.

Pero la vida fue dura.

Perdimos a nuestro padre cuando Juan tenía solo 12 años. A partir de ahí, empezó a buscar refugio en el juego, luego en el alcohol y más tarde en las drogas. Su mundo se vino abajo cuando perdió a su hijo en un aborto. Aunque después tuvo una hija con otra pareja, esa relación también lo arrastró al dolor y a la adicción. Hoy, esa misma ex pareja lo maltrata psicológicamente y también consume.

Juan sufre de depresión, adicción y un profundo sentimiento de soledad. Pero por primera vez en mucho tiempo, quiere salir adelante. Y está pidiendo ayuda. No solo a mí. También a ti.

Por qué te pido ayuda

Mi familia ha intentado ayudarlo durante años. Pero los profesionales nos dijeron que seguir dándole apoyo económico solo alimentaba su consumo. Tuvimos que dar un paso atrás. Yo soy su hermana pequeña, vivo en el extranjero, pero cada día le llamo para recordarle que no está solo.

Ahora, Juan quiere ingresar voluntariamente en una clínica de rehabilitación. Quiere cambiar. Quiere volver a ser él.

La única opción viable que hemos encontrado es una clínica privada en Sevilla, especializada en tratamientos con acompañamiento psicológico.

El coste mínimo del ingreso es de 3.200 euros, sin contar medicación, transporte, ni la ropa básica que necesita.

Juan lo ha perdido todo. Solo tiene un chaleco de obra y poco más.

Help Juan Begin Again: A Fight for His Life

Hi, my name is Sara, and I’m writing this from the other side of the world—Australia—for someone who means everything to me: my brother Juan.

Juan is 37 years old and has been living on the streets of Terrassa (Barcelona) for the past four months. He hasn’t showered in two weeks. He barely eats. He tells me he doesn’t remember how to laugh. He says all his friends have left, and that he no longer knows who he is.

Juan was always the loving one—the one who made me laugh, who snuck out of work to see my childhood dance shows when our mother couldn’t. I still remember how he used to cover me with pillows while I was sitting on the bed, just in case I fell. That’s the kind of brother he is.

But life hasn’t been kind to him.

He lost our father when he was just 12, and over the years, pain took root in him. What started as gambling after work became drinking, and eventually, hard drugs. He fell deeper after losing a child to miscarriage. And though he has a daughter with his ex-partner, that relationship also brought abuse and more addiction.

Juan now struggles with depression, addiction, and a sense of utter abandonment. And yet—he’s asking for help. Not just from me. From you, too.

Why I’m Asking for Help

My family has tried to help for years. But professionals have told us that “helping” sometimes only fuels the addiction. We’ve been forced to step back. I’m his little sister, and I’ve never felt more powerless. My parents can’t support him financially anymore, and I live overseas. Still, I call him every day. I remind him he’s not alone.

Now, for the first time in years, he wants to enter a rehabilitation program. He wants to recover. But the only clinic available with the therapy and structure he needs is in Seville, and it’s private.

The minimum cost for the program is €3,200, not including medication, transport, or clothing. Juan owns almost nothing—just a construction vest and the clothes on his back.

My family and I are also contributing financially—we’re doing what we can. But we simply can’t afford the full cost of his recovery process. That’s why we’re turning to you, to help cover the part we can’t manage alone.
