It was on March 3, 2021 that God called Iris Home.
Iris left behind her best friend and life partner Fernando, her beloved autistic son David, her far away mother Pochola, two house cats and a ton of friends who nourished their souls with her kind words, joy and compassion.
Iris was a being of light. Those that passed her would seek to capture some of that light, some of that joy of living, and try to make it their own. Iris touched and consoled many hearts and transformed many lives; she was genuinely kind and sensitive to the pain of others. Iris had always time for you. Her words of encouragement, driven by her immense faith, her always present smile, and her strong hugs will forever be remembered by those who crossed her path.
Iris fought against injustice of any form.
She was always first in line to offer a prayer for a sick person or to comfort someone that suffered a loss. She loved animals as much as she loved people, and arranged adoptions and medical treatments and surgeries for abused cats and dogs, here in New York as well as in her beloved Paraguay.
Yet, despite the many other things we could say about Iris, her passing leaves a deafening silence and some struggles. Struggles that we hope to resolve with the support of all the people that loved her in this life.
Her special son David, the love of her life, the engine that made her stand strong even on the hardest days, needs additional support now that Iris is no longer here to care for him.
Life's events, at times, are incomprehensible. Hurting the people that deserve it the least. This is the case for Iris’ surviving family who is currently fighting to obtain long-term social assistance for David, and to regain possession of their family home. A home illegally occupied by a so-called "friend" in Paraguay. A home where David and his father hope to spend the rest of their life in peace, honoring the memory of Iris.
Would Iris be here, she will only ask you to pray for her soul, for her eternal peace.
But her son is still alive.
With this fund raising effort, we seek to grant David a serene and comfortable life in his parents' homeland, surrounded by the love of his extended family.

Fue el 3 de marzo de 2021 cuando Dios llamó a Iris a casa.
Iris dejó atrás a su mejor amigo y compañero de vida Fernando, a su amado hijo David, quien tiene autismo, a su anciana madre Pochola quien vive demasiado lejos, dos gatos domésticos, muchos callejeros y un montón de amigos que nutrieron sus almas con sus amables palabras, alegría y compasión.
Iris era un ser de luz. Los que pasaban a su lado podían capturar parte de esa luz, parte de esa alegría de vivir para hacerlas suyas. Iris tocó y consoló muchos corazones y transformó muchas vidas; ella era genuinamente amable y sensible al dolor de los demás. Iris siempre tuvo tiempo para todos. Sus palabras de aliento, impulsadas por su inmensa fe, su sonrisa siempre..siempre presente, y sus fuertes abrazos serán eternamente recordados por aquellos que cruzaron su camino.
Iris luchó contra la injusticia en todas sus formas.
Ella siempre fue la primera en la fila para ofrecer una oración por una persona enferma o para consolar a alguien que sufrió una pérdida. Amaba a los animales tanto como amaba a la gente, y organizaba adopciones, tratamientos médicos y cirugías para gatos y perros maltratados, aquí en Nueva York, así como en su amado Paraguay.
Sin embargo, a pesar de las muchas otras cosas que podríamos decir sobre Iris, su muerte deja un silencio ensordecedor y algunas luchas pendientes. Luchas que esperamos resolver con el apoyo de todas las personas que la amaban en esta vida.
Su hijo especial David, el amor de su vida, el motor que la hizo mantenerse fuerte incluso en los días más difíciles, necesita apoyo adicional ahora que Iris ya no está aquí para cuidar de él.
Los acontecimientos de la vida, a veces, son incomprensibles. Lastimando a la gente que menos lo merece. Este es el caso de la familia sobreviviente de Iris que actualmente está luchando para obtener ayuda social a largo plazo para David, y para recuperar la posesión de su hogar familiar, una casa ocupada ilegalmente por una supuesta "amiga" en Paraguay. Un hogar donde David y su padre esperan pasar el resto de sus vida en paz, honrando la memoria de Iris.
Si Iris estuviera aquí, sólo te pediria que ores por su alma, por su paz eterna.
Pero su hijo sigue vivo.
Con este esfuerzo de recaudación de fondos, buscamos conceder a David y a su papá una vida serena y cómoda en la patria añorada, y rodeado del amor de su familia extendida.
