Buenos días amigos/as,

Actualmente estoy haciendo un voluntariado en una escuela en la Ciudad de Guatemala.

Esta es la escuela de una asociación de mujeres en un barrio muy deprimido de la ciudad de Guatemala.

La escuela tiene un coste para las familias porque se autofinancia (no recibe ayudas del gobierno) y este coste de de 200 quetzales al mes (€21,82) por alumno en la primaria y 300 (€32,73) en infantil (los alumnos de infantil reciben desayuno y almuerzo para ayudar a combatir la desnutrición infantil que es un gran problema en este tipo de barrios). Muchas familias no tienen este tipo de recursos y la escuela tiene un sistema de becas directas que son como ayuda directa a una familia para que sus hijos y hijas puedan venir a la escuela. Tengo que añadir que la mayoría de familias son mono parentales de facto ya que muchos de los padres están en las matas (bandas), y se encuentran en la cárcel, por lo tanto, les cuesta mucho pagar el coste de la escuela.

Mi intención con esta recaudación es ir juntando dinero para ir dando becas directas, por ejemplo, ahora hay una maestra que necesita ayuda para poder tener a sus hijos/as en la escuela y así poder ella trabajar.

Se puede donar directamente en la web de la asociación, aunque entonces el dinero no va a esta maestra (pero si va a otros proyectos fantásticos que esta asociación lleva a cabo).

Si el proyecto resuena con vosotros, es una causa lindísima, estos niños y niñas y estas mujeres valen mucho la pena y el poder ayudar aunque sea un poco me está encantando.

I am currently doing volunteer work at a school in Guatemala City.

This is the school of a women’s association located in a very underprivileged neighborhood of Guatemala City.

The school has a cost for the families because it is self-funded (it does not receive government support). This cost is 200 quetzales per month (€21.82-$26.07) per student in primary school and 300 quetzales (€32.73-$39.11) in preschool (preschool students receive breakfast and lunch to help combat child malnutrition, which is a major problem in this type of neighborhood). Many families do not have these resources, so the school has a system of direct scholarships, which function as direct assistance to families so that their sons and daughters can attend school. I should also add that most families are de facto single-parent households, as many fathers are involved in gangs and are in prison, which makes it very difficult for them to afford the cost of schooling.

My intention with this fundraising effort is to gradually raise money to provide direct scholarships. For example, there is currently a teacher who needs help so that her children can attend the school, which in turn allows her to work.

Donations can be made directly through the association’s website, although in that case the money would not go to this specific teacher (but it would support other wonderful projects run by the association).

If this project resonates with you, it is a truly beautiful cause. These children and these women are very much worth it, and being able to help—even in a small way—has been incredibly meaningful to me.
