Hola, soy Natalia Bonilla, y escribo estas palabras desde lo más profundo del corazón para pedir ayuda por mi hermano Esteban, un ser humano que ha demostrado una fuerza y una resiliencia fuera de lo común.

La familia, los amigos y hasta el mismo personal médico lo describen como un guerrero, valiente, positivo y determinado. Esteban enfrenta cada obstáculo con una actitud admirable y con una sonrisa y espíritu que ilumina incluso los días más difíciles.

En agosto de 2022, cuando tenía 34 años, Esteban fue diagnosticado con leucemia linfoblástica aguda de linfocitos B con cromosoma Philadelphia positivo, una forma muy agresiva de cáncer en la sangre. Desde ese momento, la vida de nuestra familia cambió por completo. Durante más de un año recibió quimioterapia y radioterapia en el sistema público de salud de Costa Rica, con internamientos intermitentes y un coraje inquebrantable.

Tras alcanzar una remisión completa, en octubre de 2024 la enfermedad regresó. En junio de 2025, se le realizó un trasplante de médula ósea, en el que tuve el honor de ser su donante. Sin embargo, lamentablemente, Esteban sufrió una recaída precoz dos meses después del trasplante.

Hoy, en Costa Rica, hemos llegado al límite de las opciones médicas disponibles. Pero aún queda una esperanza: el tratamiento CAR-T, una terapia avanzada e innovadora que ha dado resultados prometedores en pacientes con leucemias como la de Esteban.

Este tratamiento solo se realiza en algunos países, y uno de los centros que ya valoró su caso es el Hospital Barnaclinic+ en Barcelona, España, donde vivo actualmente. Ya tuvimos una cita virtual con el hospital, y su equipo médico ya revisó toda la documentación clínica de Esteban. Lo único que falta para iniciar es cubrir el monto inicial que permitirá comenzar los exámenes previos y dar inicio al tratamiento.

El tiempo es oro.

Por la agresividad de su enfermedad, no podemos perder ni un solo día. Ya hemos recibido el presupuesto personalizado, y el costo total es de 300.000 euros, considerando exámenes previos, el procedimiento CAR-T y el seguimiento médico posterior (aproximadamente seis meses).

Queremos aclarar que los gastos logísticos y de estancia en Barcelona estarán cubiertos por nuestra familia. Todo lo que recaudemos en esta campaña se destinará exclusivamente al tratamiento médico y sus costos directos.

Mis padres (Carlos Bonilla y Helena Gámez) y yo estamos haciendo todo lo posible, pero necesitamos ayuda para darle a Esteban esta oportunidad de vida.

Hello, my name is Natalia Bonilla, and I’m writing these words from the bottom of my heart to ask for help for my brother Esteban, a human being who has shown extraordinary strength and resilience.

Our family, friends, and even the medical staff describe him as a warrior, brave, positive, and determined. Esteban faces every challenge with admirable courage, a smile, and a spirit that brightens even the hardest days.

In August 2022, at the age of 34, Esteban was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) of B cells with the Philadelphia chromosome positive, a very aggressive form of blood cancer. From that moment, our family’s life changed completely. For more than a year, he underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy through Costa Rica’s public health system, facing repeated hospitalizations with unwavering courage.

After achieving complete remission, in October 2024, the disease returned. In June 2025, he received a bone marrow transplant, and I had the honor of being his donor. Unfortunately, Esteban suffered an early relapse just two months after the transplant.

Today, in Costa Rica, we’ve reached the limit of the available medical options. But there is still hope: CAR-T therapy, an advanced and innovative treatment that has shown promising results in patients with leukemias like Esteban’s.

This treatment is only available in a few countries, and one of the hospitals that has already reviewed his case is Hospital Barnaclinic+ in Barcelona, Spain, where I currently live. We already had a virtual appointment with the hospital, and their medical team has reviewed all of Esteban’s clinical documentation. The only step remaining to begin is covering the initial amount that will allow them to start the preliminary tests and initiate the treatment.

Time is critical.

Because of the aggressiveness of his disease, we cannot afford to lose a single day. We’ve already received the personalized cost estimate, and the total is €300,000, which includes the preliminary tests, the CAR-T procedure, and post-treatment medical follow-up (approximately six months).

We want to clarify that all living and logistical expenses in Barcelona will be covered by our family.

Everything raised in this campaign will go exclusively toward Esteban’s medical treatment and direct healthcare costs.
