Hello, my name is Melanie, and this is the story Chester.

Chester is an 11-year-old schnauzer who has been my companion, my emotional support, and my greatest joy. Recently, Chester was diagnosed with a malignant sarcoma, a type of aggressive cancer under his skin. He urgently needs oncologic surgery and electrochemotherapy to reduce the chance of recurrence.

But Chester is also dealing with early-stage chronic kidney disease, diagnosed just a few weeks before the cancer. He has been under medication and a special diet since then, with many medical expenses already behind us.

To proceed with treatment, Chester must undergo pre-surgical tests like a cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram) and bloodwork to ensure he can safely receive anesthesia. I still don’t have the prices for these tests, but they are essential and must be done in Cali, a city near Palmira where we live.

Chester also has six lipomas (fatty lumps) that have been present for many years and were always considered benign. However, now each one must be examined individually to determine if they are harmless or if they also need to be removed during surgery. These additional procedures may raise the total cost.

So far, the estimated cost of cancer treatment alone is $950 USD (≈ $3,600,000 COP), not including:

Pre-operative tests

Transportation from Palmira to Cali

And any other unexpected expenses during the process

Hola, mi nombre es Melanie, y esta es la historia de mi perrito Chester.

Chester es un schnauzer de 11 años que ha sido mi compañero, mi apoyo emocional y mi mayor alegría. Hace poco fue diagnosticado con un sarcoma maligno, un tipo de cáncer agresivo debajo de la piel. Necesita con urgencia una cirugía oncológica y electroquimioterapia para reducir el riesgo de que vuelva a aparecer.

Además, Chester ya venía luchando con una enfermedad renal crónica en etapa 1, diagnosticada pocas semanas antes del cáncer. Desde entonces ha estado bajo tratamiento con medicamentos y dieta especial, lo cual ya ha implicado varios gastos médicos.

Para poder operarlo, primero hay que hacerle exámenes preoperatorios, incluyendo un ecocardiograma y pruebas de sangre, que aún no he podido cotizar pero son indispensables. Estos estudios deben hacerse en Cali, ya que vivimos en Palmira, lo que también implica cubrir los costos de transporte.

Chester tiene además seis lipomas (bultos de grasa) desde hace muchos años, que siempre fueron considerados inofensivos. Pero ahora deben ser examinados uno por uno para determinar si también deben ser removidos durante la cirugía. Esto puede aumentar los costos totales.
