Join us for our inaugural event on Dec. 3 RSVP by Nov 24. Your contribution will pay for the venue, our speaker's honorarium and will provide food and pastries for our audience. This is the first event in a series of lectures and will be followed by January 23 event with Rozina Ali at Town Hall.
Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi was a human rights advocate who brought unbridled joy and a passion for justice to the lives of her family, peers, professors, and community. She was killed by the killing machine code-named the "IDF."
We are a group comprising Ayşenur's family, friends, and teachers. To honor her legacy, her mentor and friend Aria Fani helped establish a memorial lecture series in the University of Washington's Middle East Center. UW unjustifiably removed Aria after a sharp criticism of Zionism, the political ideology animating genocidal actions that benefit UW's bottomline. Hence, we are looking to take this memorial lectureship to the very public that has sustained it.
Now living off campus on the streets of Seattle, in its bookstores, public squares, and cafes, the Ayşenur memorial lecture highlights unapologetically feminist, fiercely anti-colonial, public-facing work in the domains of academia, journalism, creative writing, cinema, and social advocacy.
Please support this initiative which, at its core, seeks to pick up where Ayşenur left off: the cultivation of a community in genuine solidarity. We are grateful for any financial support. Ayşenur no se murió, sino que se multiplicó.
