Ayo Sanneh: Miss Omega Psi Phi Pageant

The BOLD Delta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is hosting its 3rd annual Miss Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Pageant on November 7, 2025. It serves to recognize and uplift collegiate women who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership in their community, creativity, and community service. The pageant also serves as a fundraiser, with each contestant raising money for their pageant journey and to support their platform throughout the year.

Greetings everyone!
My name is Ayo Sanneh. I’m a second-year at the esteemed Emory University, double majoring in Environmental Science and African American Studies, and a member of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated’s 2025 Miss Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Pageant.

As a proud Houston native, I carry the experiences I gained in my social environment with me and make it a point to create good out of the knowledge I gained from not only the people who supported me along the way, but also the teachers who purposely made successfully participating in school harder for me and several other young Black kids around me.

Navigating academia and reading literature surrounding this topic has shown me that our experiences weren’t isolated, but a result of a larger paradigm that labels Black girls as ‘disruptive, loud, defiant, promiscuous,’ etc., rather than being able to teach us past the archetypes ascribed to us in the learning space. Doing so makes it significantly harder for Black kids to navigate the schooling system with a mobility that paves a path for social mobility and further education.

This is why my platform, EmpowHER aims to facilitate the matriculation of Black women into higher education. Because when 2% of U.S. Attorneys and 2% of tenured professors are women of color, a finer change must be had.

As a Spring '25 initiate of the Alluring Alpha Tau chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and a Finer Woman, I make sure to leave my Royal Blueprint wherever I go. This is why I plan on using my skills and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated’s Mandated Program of Scholarship to further enhance my platform.

If you feel so inclined, please donate above to further aid my program! Anything helps and I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you for reading and have an amazing day!
