Help me help Ukraine!
Donation protected
In January of 2023 I made my way to Izium, a small town in eastern Ukraine, to work for a newly formed charity called Insulate Ukraine. Founded by Harry Houston, an engineer at the University of Cambridge, Insulate Ukraine had come up with an inexpensive and effective insulating solution to replace windows destroyed by the ongoing combat near the front lines in the south and east of the country. Fellow volunteer Joshua and I had quite an adventure on that trip, sourcing window materials from anywhere we could and working closely with the small network of Ukrainians on the ground in Izyum who were the key to coordinating our efforts — and key to spreading the word about the project in town halls and by word of mouth throughout the neighborhoods in this small town.
Six months on, Harry has done an amazing job of continuing to build momentum for Insulate Ukraine. Having demonstrated the effectiveness, low cost, and ease of fabrication of his insulation solution to local city councils and leaders, he has seen his project picked up and expanded by local residents in Izyum, Lyman, Nikopol, and Kherson.
On this trip to Ukraine, I will be assisting Harry in coordinating logistics for purchasing and delivery of window materials, assisting local networks in each municipality with implementation, and lending a hand in whatever way I can — there are always unexpected exigencies that emerge in a country at war. And I’m sure I’ll build a few windows too.
This fundraiser is intended to help me defray my travel cost and expenses, and contribute to the purchase, transport, and delivery of insulating materials with which I'll be replacing destroyed windows.
Funds can also be donated directly to Insulate Ukraine to help with the overall project:
Thanks so much for helping me lend a hand in Ukraine!
