We are raising funds to bring We the Living, Ayn Rand's first novel and one of the most remarkable films of the twentieth century, to Australian audiences for the first time.

The Australian Centre for Objectivism is organising the official Australian premiere in Melbourne in November 2026, followed by a national tour through Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth in 2027.

Our initial $10,000 AUD fundraising goal will help fund the official premiere and establish the tour. But $10,000 is only the first milestone. Bringing We the Living to audiences across Australia will require significantly more funding, and every dollar raised beyond our initial goal will go toward expanding and supporting the national tour.

For more than eighty years, We the Living (1942) has survived censorship, political suppression and near extinction to inspire generations of lovers of freedom around the world.

Produced in Fascist Italy during the Second World War without Ayn Rand's initial knowledge or permission, the film was withdrawn after authorities recognised its uncompromising attack on dictatorship. Decades later, producer Duncan Scott rediscovered the surviving film and worked personally with Ayn Rand to restore and preserve it.

Now, for the first time in history, We the Living is coming to Australia.

The Official Australian Premiere

The official Australian premiere is planned for November 2026 in Melbourne, bringing together admirers of Ayn Rand from across Australia and beyond for a major cultural event.

The evening will begin with a gala reception featuring drinks, canapés and the opportunity to meet fellow supporters of Ayn Rand's ideas. Guests will then attend the Australian premiere screening of We the Living, introduced by Duncan Scott, followed by a live audience Q&A.

Travelling from the United States especially for the occasion, Duncan will tell the extraordinary story of the film's rediscovery and restoration, his work with Ayn Rand, and the film's journey from suppression to preservation.

Then, we take We the Living across Australia!

The Melbourne premiere is only the beginning.

Throughout 2027, we plan to bring We the Living to audiences in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, creating opportunities for Australians around the country to experience the film on the big screen.

This national tour is central to the campaign. We do not want We the Living to appear in Australia for a single evening and disappear again. We want to use the premiere as the beginning of something much larger: bringing Ayn Rand's art and its celebration of freedom, courage and the unconquerable human spirit to audiences across the country.

That is why fundraising will continue beyond the initial $10,000 goal. The more we raise, the more effectively we can promote the film, reach new audiences and bring screenings to cities around Australia.

Your contribution will directly support cinema and venue hire, technical presentation, event production, promotion, and the costs involved in taking We the Living around the country.
