Ayla’s Emergency Vet Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Liz and I created this fundraiser on behalf of Ariana and our amazing, sweet cat Ayla who recently became very ill and required emergency veterinary care, which has cost Ariana over $8,000 so far. I know that sounds like a crazy amount of money, but Ayla is only 6-years-old and she means so much to us.

Ariana has spent much of her life trying to help others but she’s not always the best at asking for help herself. On her behalf, I’d like to humbly ask anyone who is able to consider donating even just a small amount to help Ariana pay for Ayla’s medical bills. I realize that times have been tough for everyone recently, so even words of support and sharing the fundraiser would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone who knows Ariana knows how much she loves and cares for her cats. It’s fun to call her a crazy cat lady but in truth she works so hard to give her four cats (Ayla, Ben, Mouse, and Cricket) good lives and make them happy.

When Ariana deployed to the Middle East in 2020, she found out at the last minute that she wouldn’t be able to bring Ben and Ayla to Bahrain because of Covid restrictions. Ben and Ayla lived with me during her deployment and Ayla is the most darling, affectionate, sweetest girl. She kept me company everyday while I studied for board exams and was always there when I needed her. I got used to her always being cuddled in my lap. She even got along with my husky.

Earlier this week, Ariana called me in the middle of the night to say that Ayla was struggling to breathe. Ayla was rushed to the vet and was found to be in acute heart failure with fluid accumulating in her lungs and abdomen. She was also extremely anemic, with a dangerously low red blood cell count. The vet thinks Ayla may have an infection called Feline Infectious Peritonitis, although it’s possible that other factors contributed to her rapid illness.

Ayla was admitted to the veterinary hospital and spent 3 nights in a high oxygen tank. They gave her medication to decrease the fluid that had accumulated in her lungs and abdomen, performed diagnostic imaging, and took a sample of her abdominal fluid.

When Ariana called me, we both thought that Ayla might not survive the night but she has responded well to treatment and is about to be discharged home although with multiple daily medications and she will need to see a veterinary cardiologist in the near future to determine the extent of her heart damage.

She will also need continued treatment for Feline Infectious Peritonitis, which will cost approximately $1500 for several months of daily injections.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you may be able to provide.

Most sincerely,
Liz
