Aying's jaw Surgery Fund.

I met Aying Sito Boyan 2 years ago when I was volunteering at International Animal Rescues Orangutan centre in Indonesian Borneo.
Aying works as a orang-utan keeper at the centre spending his days caring for displaced and orphaned orang-utans. Taking many of the babies or juveniles out to forest school each day teaching them valueable skills to hopefully help them one day to return to the wild. Or keeping the adults orang-utans confined to cages (for their and their human keepers safety) interested by making many enrichment items and collecting branches for them to make nests.

Aying was a very shy man not really interacting with the volunteers like the local keepers usually do. I found out that a lot of this was because Aying could not move his jaw and this made him very self conscious and stopped him from talking with anyone he did not know.

A lot has happened in two years …

I fell in love with this man, a gentle, kind, generous, funny fun-loving and caring guy. And we are now married.

Why does Aying need your help?

Aying was in a motorbike accident when he was 12, he suffered extensive head injuries and two broken legs. Aying was born and lived a small dayak village about a 7 to 8 hour drive from Palangkaraya in Central Kalimantan.

Without the money or the expertise available to Aying at the time of the accident most of his broken bones went untreated. His family did all they could to get help for him, resorting to the local witch doctor for help. After three months he was slowly walking again, but his jaw went untreated and slowly in the years that followed Aying’s jaw clamped shut.

  18 YEARS after the accident....

Aying’s jaw has been completed shut for around 15 years now.  This means aying has been living of a liquid diet mainily consisting of a dish called bubur in Indonesia which is basically a rice porridge.

Aying cant even open his jaw 1cm wide thus has resulted in tooth decay and jaw pain and now some of his  bottom teeth are growing into his top jaw.

Aying’s mandible has fused with the bottom of his skull which now leaves him with no movement in his jaw at all.

Could you imagine not being able to open your mouth and needing to vomit or having a cold not being able to breathe properly through your nose and not being able to open your mouth to get that much need gulp of air. For 15 YEARS.

My mission now is to get him the surgery he need that allow him to eat solid foods again as the best result but even just getting his jaw broken and decaying teeth removed would be a beneficial to his heath and confidence.

We have had a few meeting with specialists and we are confident that with surgery and lots of rehabilition Aying could one day again move his jaw and more importantly have  decaying  infected teeth removed which we all know led to more health problems done the track.

With all the visa fees, flights, hospital and doctor costs we estimate the cost being around $30,000 to $40,000

We are asking for kind donations to help us get Aying the surgery he needs to eat solid foods again and just be confident to smile.

Aying is a Indonesian national with an income of the eqivilent wage of around $100 australian dollars we need your help to raise $40,000.

This will change Aying's life. He will be able to eat soild foods again and be the confident man he should be. He will be able to smile with his mouth open. Breathe a little easier if he has a cold. Join the family at restaurant and choose something to enjoy off the menu. He won't have to hide away in another room when he eats because he is embarassed.

This surgery means the world to Aying. Please help him
