A Year In The Life Feature Film

Synopsis:
A YEAR IN THE LIFE is based on a true story. It is a coming of age story of a young man in the mid 90’s trying to survive the gang riddled streets of Little Rock, Arkansas, one of the most dangerous cities in America. Think Boyz in the hood but for a new millennium and set in a small town that no one would suspect as being as dangerous as Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, etc. In 1995, when the story takes place, Little Rock was number 1 in violent crimes and murders. The story follows the life of 17 year old Daron Carter. Daron is a graduating senior, a stand out student in the field of drama and basically a good kid. He dreams of escaping Little Rock and one day moving to Los Angeles to become a famous actor but first he must find a way to survive the gangs, murders, high school, drugs, first love and much more.

While the talent is undeniable, the streets and life have a way of holding onto and trapping young men in the urban jungle. His father, Daron Sr, is war veteran that comes from those very streets and refuses to let his son throw away his life. The two struggle as their stubborn natures clash. Neither Daron Sr. nor Jr. are known for backing down so the battle of wills can be intense to say the least. While facing a daily battle with his father, he also must face the pressures of his first real love and relationship falling apart, as the young love birds find themselves at “different places in their live.” He is dealing with the daily threat of violence or murder because they live in the murder capital. He is dealing with his loving mothers severe financial struggles. He is losing his best friend due to a bad decision and a misunderstanding. And his dreams of attending a prestigious school for talented actors are dashed when he discovers that even after offering him the largest scholarship they have ever offered anyone, he still cannot afford to go.

In the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, Daron contemplates turning to the streets and his “friends” in the drug game to solve his problems. What happens when a good kid is raised in a bad place? Can a fathers tough love prevent his son from succumbing to the street life or will it drive him towards it? Poetic Icon Langston Hughes once asked “whatever happens to dream deferred?” A Year in the Life gives you a visual of a young man fighting for his dreams and doing all that he can to keep them from being deferred. It is a powerful story that tugs at the heart strings and inspires it’s audience to never give up. It shows that regardless of where we come from or the odds we face, we can overcome them and truly live our dreams.

WHAT WE NEED FUNDS FOR:
It's common amongst actors, that thing of "there are no small parts, only small actors." The same could be said of films, because indeed, the smallest of films has the potential to be very large. In the process of completing my feature film A YEAR INTHE LIFE, we've become inspired to tackle this film and take it to new heights and presenting the world with a quality project.

To that, we are looking for just enough funds to allow for the basics during our brief seven-day shoot: food, minimal equipment, the barest of crew fees, locations and of course, our actors. Our goal is to create a film that will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the most expensive of films.

Project Film Date/ July 2016. On behalf of my brilliant, selflessly hard-working cast and crew, I thank you for whatever you might be willing to throw our way.
