Ayden's Battle

Donation protected

On July 22nd 2015 Ayden, my 2 year old son, was diagnosed with Rentinoblastoma in his right eye.  This is a rare cancer that develops in the retina's of the eye.  There are only around 300 cases every year diagnosed in the United States.  He was immediatley reffered the St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee.  Shortly after arriving to St. Jude the diagnosis was confirmed by the specialist and tests began and surgery scheduled to remove his right eye.  After surgery an MRI was done as well as pathology test on the optic nerve that was removed with the eye.  MRI results showed everything clear but the pathology results were not negative for cancer.  They have requested Ayden to come back to have more tests run as they are afraid it has reached his blood stream.  They will be putting in a port and begin administering chemotherapy.  We currently do not know how long this process will last and what the future holds for little Ayden and our family.  We know that Ayden is a fighter as this is not his first battle with life.  In August of 2014 we nearly lost Ayden to a drowning.  During a family gathering as everyone was saying goodbyes and preparing to go to thier own homes Ayden snuck away.  He was only out of sight for a couple of minutes.  When it was noticed he was not in the room with everyone else the family began searching everywhere.  He was found outside in the pool with only his feet up.  They immediatley pulled him from the water and began CPR until the ambulance arrived.  They took him unresoponsive to Easley Baptist hospital and then to Greenville Memorial hospital.  When he finally became aware of his surroundings all he would do was cry and sleep.  He stayed at the Childrens Hospital of the Greenville Hospital over night.  By the next morning he had bounced right back to his normal self.  Doctors were concerned that he might have some limited motor functions due to his brain being without oxygen for so long.  Ayden proved them wrong.  He is a true fighter and I know he will defeat this cancer. The distance from home to St. Jude is nearly 600 miles one way and we may be having to make this trip every few weeks during this process. We have decided to start a Go Fund Me account to help support our family as we will be living in two different locations on only one income for an unknown amount of time.  We would really appreciate any and all help we can get during this difficult journey.  If you would like to follow the story we have created a page on Facebook as Ayden's Battle.  We will post updates on how he is doing as well as any fundraising events.  Thank you for taking your time to view this brief version of his story.
