We are reaching out to you asking for help. Our dear friends’ 16-year-old daughter, Lily, is facing a life-threatening condition called aplastic anemia. The only cure for this rare disease is a bone marrow transplant which is a long road and involves an extended hospital stay of at least three months. Lily has already spent most of her time in the hospital since her diagnosis four weeks ago and has been undergoing numerous medical procedures while she awaits a donor match.
Lily is a vibrant teenager who has always brought joy to those around her. She has a twin brother, Evan and together with their two other siblings, they form a close-knit family of six. Anyone and everyone who is acquainted with the Scheerer clan knows what a solid and loving family they are. Lily's diagnosis has turned their world upside down, but they remain hopeful and determined to fight this battle.
Lily’s extended hospital stay will result in a significant loss of income for the family as they need to be by her side during this difficult time. Additionally, there are extra expenses related to travel, accommodations and other needs for Lily that are not covered by healthcare.
We are rallying around Lily and her family to help alleviate some of their financial burdens which will support them in focusing on what really matters: Lily's recovery.
Lily’s situation joins the list of so many worthy causes deserving of support and any help you are able to provide is greatly appreciated. In addition to any financial contribution you may be able to provide, please share Lily’s story with your friends and networks. Lastly please consider donating blood or registering to donate stem cells with Canadian Blood Services.
