Hello my name is Shameka Fennell and I am the mother of Ayanna Fennell.
At the age of 5 years old, my daughter Ayanna was diagnosed with the rare blood disorder Sickle Cell Anemia as well as Small Blood Vessel Disease. These illnesses have made it difficult for Ayanna to perform normal tasks. Each month Ayana has to undergo blood transfusions to prevent complications of these diseases. This also allows her to pursue of passion for dancing. Dancing is a outlet for her which she is amazing in!
Ayanna has been close to death a few times in her life, often experiencing horrible, painful sickle cell crises caused by this disease. By the grace of God, Ayanna is now 18 and we finally received the call we have been waiting for!!!
We learned that Ayanna is eligible to receive a Bone Marrow Transplant and my son is her match. Both of my kids will be going through this process together and this November is the first step for them. If she receives the Bone Marrow Transplant successfully, she will be cured of Sickle Cell Anemia!
In order to receive the Bone Marrow Transplant, we will have to travel to Duke University Hospital in North Carolina which is 4 hours from our home in Hampton, VA.
My children and I will need to live in North Carolina while they undergo this process. If you can find it in your heart, please donate. No amount is too big or small. All donations collected will go toward our meals, living and medical expenses to make this dream come true for Ayanna. I thank God for everything He has and is still doing in my daughter’s life. She is truly a warrior! God bless ❤️
