Hello, my name is Francesca, and my sister and brother in-law, Christina and Angel Ayala, need our help.

Around 1am on October 21st, Angel had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics he was given for pneumonia. My sister took him to the hospital and he was immediately placed on a ventilator before his airway completely closed. At 5:30am, I received a call from Christina that Angel was on the vent and that she was going into labor. So while Angel was being admitted to an ICU at one hospital, Christina and I were at another preparing for her to have their baby.

That same night, Christina gave birth to a healthy baby boy, who had yet to be named because she wanted Angel to help decide. The day after Baby Ayala was born, the medicine started to kick in and Angel was able to react and respond with small gestures while he was still hooked up to the vent. The medical team allowed us to FaceTime him and let him know his son had arrived. With the help of a clipboard, paper, a marker, and blinking... Angel wrote down the name he wanted to give their son and showed it to Christina! It wasn't the way they had expected to name their son, but they still did it together.

Angel was on the ventilator for 3 days and was kept in the ICU for an additional 3 days for observation and recovery before being discharged to meet his son in person!

He's still recovering 3 weeks later because he's been going to work in order to make up for lost wages and pay for the medical bills. He has Lupus, which is making his recovery even more difficult. He works full time as an electrician for a local business. Christina is a kindergarten teacher at OLA and saved as many sick days in her 8 years of teaching in order to have time off to take care of their son.

With this unexpected turn of events, I am asking for donations to relieve this sudden financial burden as this now family of 3 navigate their new normal!
