Ayala Campos Memorial Fund

Dearest friends and colleagues alike,

I would for you to consider contributing to this fund aimed towards helping my family offset the cost of funeral expenses for my grandfather. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, I would be very appreciative if you could pass this page along within your professional/friends/family networks.

Below is a brief story of my grandfather

My grandfather Salomon Campos Araujo (January 1952 - December 24th, 2020) had lived in Guerrero, Mexico on his ranch before leaving everything behind to come to the United States due to conflict with increasing cartel violence. He would come to the United States with my grandmother and establish himself in Santa Ana, California before my mom would also make the same journey from Mexico City. At this time my grandfather had worked his way into a home with help from the Salvation Army.

This would be the home I would spend part of my life growing up with my cousins and my grandparents. In order to help make ends meet my grandfather and grandmother cleaned offices at night, worked in auto shops and did this till the end. My grandfather had showed held a devotion to strong work ethic and putting the family first as much as possible, I held him in the highest of regards for this.

Within the last month, my grandfather and grandmother had both contracted COVID-19. I began taking on their duties and helping my mother and sister with other family members in cleaning offices at night for them to stay home. We would continually drop off supplies when we could in hopes that they would get better. Over time my grandmother recovered from COVID. However, my grandfather had prior issues with asthma and his work history of being exposed to fine particles, may have caused damage to his lungs and been part of the underlying factors that lead to the virus attacking his lungs much more aggressively. As time progressed my grandfather’s situation worsened, and he was intubated and moved to the ICU. On December 24th, 2020 Christmas Eve he passed away.
He was a loving grandfather to my sister and I, an affectionate parent to my mother and a devoted husband to my grandmother. My grandfather was able to watch my sister and I grow up and be proud for what we have been able to take advantage of from his sacrifice's in coming to the U.S. and this impact on me will last with me for the rest of my lifetime.
