I'd like to start by introducing myself , my name is Kelly Hothan Palladino. I have started this Go Fund Me account for my beautiful big sister Karen Hothan Worthington. My sister Karen has always been there for me ( as well as others ) at the drop of a hat. Always there to help in any way needed, putting others needs before her own. I love my sister dearly and want her around always. Karen was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer in May 2018.

I'd like to tell you a little bit about my sister Karen & her husband Bill Worthington, a Proud Veteran. Their home is in Long Island , NY , right down the road from the inlet.
In Oct. 2012 Super Storm Sandy struck. It destroyed their home, it took a long while to get everything back to normal and after all the repairs were made the town they live in wanted all homes to be raised.
Karen and Bill used a company N.Y.Rising and had their home raised 8ft. It took a long time but was finally finished in 2017, it took that long because of all the red tape. With Sandy behind them Karen and Bill could relax and go back to normal life.
Now going into May 2018, my big sister was given the shocking news that she had Breast Cancer. Karen, being who she is, worried about how her family would handle the news. Once she told them ,she was ready to fight it all the way, with Bill at her side. Karen kept her appointments with Dr.'s and exams that were needed.
Karen and Bill went to an appointment for an exam on June 29,2018. When Karen was done she and Bill left. Bill was taking Karen to lunch at the restaurant they were married in. They had such a wonderful lunch together, one that would always be remembered. Bill was going to drive but he asked Karen to drive because he wasn't feeling well. So as Karen was driving ,Bill told Karen again that he just did not feel right. Karen said she was going to take him to the ER. Bill said No he did not want to go. Less than a minute passed and Bill said something's not right, Karen looked at him and said No, you do not look good at all and then Bill slumped his head down. Karen called out his name, but he didn't answer. She pulled over & immediately started mouth to mouth and kept it up until the Paramedics arrived. They took over but they could not save Bill, Karen's husband was gone!
My sister's first Chemo appointment was in 5 days. Her Dr. told her she could not put it off but Karen said that first she must bury her husband, her love, her best friend Bill, a Proud War Veteran and her Hero. It was a very tough time for her, on top of everything else.
Karen started her Chemo shortly after Bill's passing. Her son Derek and his wife Bea are staying with her to make things a little easier for her at this difficult time. I am grateful that they are able to do that for her so she is not alone.
You've heard the saying "when it rains it pours", well her kitchen appliances started breaking on her. First her sink faucet and lines stopped working and had to be replaced. Next her stove knobs did not work and she had to have them fixed and then her refrigerator stopped working all together. That was a big expense. It just kept up, one thing after the other.
Karen's medical bills out of pocket are $11,000.00 and her house repairs that she is in debt for are $2,500.00. It is so overwhelming for her. My big sister has always been there for me, no questions asked. I want to help her, the best way for me to help her is to start this Go Fund Me account.
I humbly ask, for my sister Karen, if you will open your hearts to help her. Either with a donation or passing this on to all your friends and family.
Karen and I will never forget your kindness.
Thank you
Sincerely
