Yoga For All offers 100% donation-based, all-levels yoga classes in alternative studios and community spaces. The mission of Yoga For All is to expand community access to yoga, beyond the mainstream settings and demographics of yoga studios. Creating greater access to yoga's practices of inner health, collective empathy and feeling good is the goal of the program.

Yoga For All has a new initiative, which is to bring yoga classes into specific underserved community locations. The first application of this initiative begins December 8th 2018 with a weekly Saturday afternoon class for the students at Lafayette High School.

Lafayette High School's entire student body is comprised of youth who have lived in the U.S. for less than two years. Most of these students come from countries where they have suffered from traumas such as wars or natural disasters.

In order to best serve these students, I feel it is important to undergo additional training centered on techniques designed to address trauma inflicted communities.

Therefore I intend to take part in the upcoming teacher training facilitated by Yogis in Service of Western NY. This training is an in-depth one year long course that targets trauma-informed, inclusive methods as well as working with children and in unconventional community settings

I approach yoga as a method of learning how to hear the knowledge in our bodies, in order to heal and thrive. Our bodies know what they need to thrive, but we rarely have the time, space, or attention to access this information. We live in a culture that trains us to prioritize cognitive intelligence, and often to ignore the intelligence of our bodies. The school day is structured around teaching students to be productive in their cognitive functions. It is therefore important to provide these students with programs that also address the functions and information in their bodies. Through re-learning how to feel, we gain empathy for ourselves, and for the collective organism to which we contribute.

The cost of tuition and books for the course is $3,500 in total. This Gofundme campaign is to raise money for my participation in the Yogis in Service trauma informed training that begins in January of 2019. If additional funds are raised on top of the $3,500, this money will be used to purchase props and yoga mats for Yoga For All Buffalo as it continues to grow into the Buffalo community.
