Help Axel After a Life-Threatening Seizure Emergency

This past weekend, our world was turned upside down in the most terrifying way imaginable. Our beloved Axel — the world’s largest, gentlest Giant Schnauzer — suffered a devastating series of uncontrollable cluster seizures.

Axel has epilepsy, and it has been beautifully managed for a long time. But on Saturday evening, he began seizing, and those seizures continued through the entire night. By Sunday, after enduring approximately 30 seizures in just 24 hours, his body could no longer keep up, and he was rushed into emergency care in Kingston.

From that moment on, it became a fight for his life.

Axel was placed under 24-hour critical care, transferred between emergency and daytime hospitals, put on continuous IV medications, and monitored closely while the medical teams worked tirelessly to stabilize his seizures and determine the right medication balance to save him. For days, everything was hour-by-hour, breath-by-breath.

Axel is not just a dog. He is magic. He is calm, intuitive, gentle, and deeply connected to the people around him. He has a way of making you feel safe just by sitting beside you. He is the heart of his family’s home, and the quiet, loving soul behind the small business Bones & Roses. So many people know him, love him, and feel his presence in their lives.

After days of fear, uncertainty, and constant monitoring, we were beyond grateful to bring Axel home on Tuesday night, stable and seizure-free. Having him back where he belongs is more than we can put into words.

However, the cost of saving his life has been overwhelming. The emergency care, IV medications, multiple hospital transfers, and continuous monitoring resulted in steep medical expenses that have reached into the thousands in just a matter of days.
