Help Axel keep fighting for his life!

Dear friends and animal lovers,
Our names are Gabbi and Bri, two teachers residing in the charming town of Little Falls. We have a wonderful little family that consists of 3 little fur babies, Layla (3-year-old Mini Aussie), Rue (a spunky 1 1/2-year-old cat) and Axel (a 1-year-old Lab Mix). We could go on and on about our fur babies, but right now, we need your assistance for our dear boy, Axel who has fallen ill and is currently receiving treatment at the veterinary hospital.
On Friday, January 27th, we woke up to a bathroom covered in bloody diarrhea. Unsure of which dog it came from, we decided to stay home and monitor all of them but found them eating/drinking normal, playing, and continuing to be their lovable selves. The following day, Axel vomited and had another episode of bloody diarrhea, so we immediately took him to the emergency veterinary hospital for a workup. After a thorough examination, several blood tests, stool samples, and ultrasounds, Axel was diagnosed with a serious GI bleed and has been receiving constant treatment and monitoring for the past 96 hours. The past four days have been a roller coaster of emotions as Axel's health has fluctuated.
The cause of the bleed is unknown, but doctors believe he possibly ingested something extremely toxic. The veterinary team are concerned about Axel's low red blood cell count and fear Axel may experience organ failure since he has become anemic. They contacted poison control to determine the best course of action and Axel has shown some improvement, but still has a long way to go. Axel requires continued hospitalization, further evaluation, and care to ensure a full recovery. The medical expenses associated with Axel's treatment is substantial and continues to add up as he receives the necessary care.
This is where we need your help! We have exhausted of our emergency funds and have maxed out our credit cards in an effort to provide Axel with the care he needs. We have received quotes from the veterinary hospital for Axel's ongoing treatment and the cost is beyond our means. We are now uncertain of how to proceed and are humbly asking for your help. We understand that times are tough for many, but if you are able to help, please consider making a donation to our GoFundMe campaign. Your donation will be used exclusively to cover Axel's medical expenses and to give him the best chance at a full recovery. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will bring us one step closer to giving Axel the love and care he deserves.
Axel's life has been a tough one from the very beginning; however, despite the hardships he has faced, he remains a friendly and loving dog. As a young puppy living in South Carolina, Axel was thrown out of a moving truck on the highway. When rescuers found Axel, they discovered large burns covering multiple parts of his back from burning grease that had been poured on him as a puppy. Treatment was started right away, and Axel's burns eventually healed over, leaving only scars behind. Despite his difficult start in life and traumatic experiences, Axel remains an active and energetic pup. We have since rescued Axel and he has been a part of our family for 8 months now and the final puzzle piece to make us feel complete. He loves to be cuddled, wrapped up in blankets, and is the sweetest 50-pound lap dog you will ever meet.
Axel has been a constant source of joy and love in our lives, and we are deeply committed to ensuring his full recovery. We cannot express the amount of gratitude we have for the veterinary team who have been working tirelessly to save Axel's life, and for those of you who are considering donating to help us cover his medical expenses. He beat the odds when he was only a few months old, and he is trying to beat the odds again now. He won't be coming home until his diarrhea is under control, his GI bleed stops, and his PCV & Protein levels are stabilized. This means more time in the hospital with more tests, medicine, and ultrasounds.
We are deeply grateful for your support and for helping us give our furry friend the love and care he needs in his time of need. Please know that your kindness will never be forgotten, and that Axel and our family will be forever grateful for your generosity. Layla misses her right-hand man and Axel just wants to come back home and be snuggled into a blanket with some peanut butter.
Kindest Wishes,
Gabbi, Bri, Layla, and Rue
