Our Dad's Road To Recovery

Donation protected
We are raising money to help our dad (from St. Louis, MO) to recover from an unexpected, life changing event.

On October 7, 2015, Steve, our dad, was in a tragic car accident.  Another driver swerved to miss a deer and ran Steve into the median at the Illinois Route 1 overpass, going eastbound on Interstate 64.  His truck became airborne at approximately 40 to 50 feet, landing into the southbound lane on Illinois Route 1, smashing into the guardrail on the East side of the northbound lane.  Firefighters extracted him from his flattened truck and he was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Upon arrival to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (where he has spent the last two weeks) his complications included: broken femur, broken arm, several broken ribs, several back fractures, severe trauma to his chest, heart, and lungs.  With such major internal damage it is requiring him to be on oxygen and heart medication, as well as being in need of durable medical equipment.  He will need extensive rehabilitation to include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and in-home nursing care.

This week, they have transferred him to a Rehabilitation Hospital to start his rehab.  He is expected to stay the next two to three weeks, which thereafter, he will be released into our care.  Until he gains independence, he will be unable to work and due to the doctor’s estimation of recovering which includes three months in a wheel chair and one year rehab.  He will need in-home care to help him with everyday routines (bathing, cooking, cleaning, and transportation to therapy and doctor appointments, etc.).

Us kids want to give our dad a peace of mind to recover his physical body and not to worry about his immediate financial obligations and medical needs in the coming months of recovery.

We sincerely appreciate your support, prayers, and donations to help our Dad on his road to recovery.
