Thank you to my family and friends for your kind contributions. The funds have now been released to my account, but I am still unable to obtain an address or direct contact for my dad.

After speaking individually with each contributor, the donations were either returned to the original giver or transferred—with their permission—to the organisation listed below.

Together, my family and friends raised a total of £297.77, with £245 donated directly to our local Milton Keynes charity Friends of the Caribbean, who are currently running their own relief fund for Jamaica. They work closely with my aunty at One Love Luncheon Club here in MK and in partnership with MKCC.

courage to help their neighbours,

and compassion to share whatever they can.

Hi, my name is Lauren Burton, and I’m fundraising £2,000 to support my family and community in Jamaica after the devastating hurricane.

My grandparents and cousins live in Top Hill, St. Elizabeth — one of the areas hit hardest by the storm. My dad had just flown there from the UK two weeks ago to be with my grandmother, who’s been very ill, and now they’re all caught in the middle of this devastation.

The destruction there is unimaginable. Homes have been torn apart, land has been wash out and roads completely cut off. I’ve been desperately trying to reach my family, but with power lines down and no communication, I still haven’t been able to reach them or know if they’re safe.

The footage I have seen is beyond what I imagined anyone would have to go through, let alone someone who I love and so many others in their community are struggling without basic necessities like food, clean water, and shelter. I felt the need to do something proactive in this situation.

Whilst we do know the UK will be sending aid we know how long this will take to reach the people that really need it.

I feel so fortunate and grateful to have people around me who genuinely want to help, collaborate, and support my goal of raising funds for my family.

The funds raised will go directly towards sending barrels filled with essential supplies, food, clothing, toiletries, and household items. I’ll also be sending cash donations with whatever is left after filling up the barrel to help them begin to rebuild their lives after losing everything.

Even the smallest contribution will make a world of difference to those who have nothing left. Please, if you can, help me bring hope, relief, and support to my family and their community in Jamaica during this unimaginable time.
