Phi Kappa Tau Beta Beta House Fund

Brothers,

My name is Andrew Masterson  (BB '89) and am President of the Phi Kappa Tau Beta Beta Chapter House Corps.

Over 10 years ago, our beloved chapter was given notice by U of L that our building was going to be razed to make room for a new dorm. We were given an option to construct a new house on an available lot on Greek Row, move into a suite without living quarters and minimal gathering space, or lose our identity on campus.   A group of us got together, polled some of our fellow alumni, and decided to take the ambitious move to build a house.

We needed to raise around $800,000 to build the house.  Once we had achieved $500,000 in pledges, we felt like we had this and we began construction.

Unfortunately, many of our brothers were impacted in a variety of ways by the down-turn in the financial markets that began in 2007 and some of those pledges were not honored.   In the end, only approximately $350,000 was collected.

Total construction and furnishing costs were around $900,000.  Through financing and rents, we have be able to pay our debt down to $475,000 today.

I'm asking for you to dig deep into your pockets to support my efforts to pay down this mortgage to allow for rent income to go towards member academic scholarships.

I feel that because of our Chapter House and the strong support of our alumni, we remain one of the largest and most successful chapters on the campus.  Our members continue to do fantastic service to the community in so many ways, you would be amazed!

I cannot thank you enough for your consideration. This has been a bigger challenge that I had ever imagined. My only goal was to help maintain our position as THE best chapter on the University of Louisville campus and a leader among all Phi Tau chapters in the US.
