Kelly's Medical Bills for Bladder Cancer

Hello Friends and Family~

During this time of uncertainty in our world today this makes it twice as hard to ask for help. “The power of hope is here every day.”

As some of you may know my oldest son Kelly has been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer. His bladder is so damaged with diverticulitis and cancer it cannot be saved. He’s had two prior surgeries on his bladder to try and save without removing the bladder. Both failed. The next step is to remove his bladder, prostate and nearby lymph nodes. The surgeon also creates a new route for urine to leave his body. He will then have Neobladder reconstruction. This is done by using a piece of the small intestine to create a sphere-shaped pouch that becomes the new bladder. A neobladder isn’t a completely new, normal bladder. Kelly needs to learn a new way to relieve the urine because there isn’t a muscle to help control output. His hospital stay is about five days and during this time of COVID 19 it is an added burden of worry. His recovery time (without complications) will be about six months. With the possibility of chemo.

Please let me tell you a little about my son Kelly and all he has endured in the last three years with his health. Kelly worked at the Ritz Carlton in maintenance in the desert (where he won employee of the year) before he transferred to the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel. Three years ago a ladder collapsed and he was rushed to the hospital. He needed to have shoulder surgery on both of his shoulders. Followed by physical therapy. One shoulder never healed properly and he had to have surgery again. Needless to say going back to maintenance was out of the question at this point in time. Kelly is very creative and because he could not go back to maintenance he started making jewelry and art work.

Through mutual friends Kelly reconnected with Sandy, a friend from Dana Hills High School. Sandy is now Kelly’s beautiful wife and soul mate. She has a heart of gold and is a strong support of his trials and tribulations. Sandy is a nurse and has two handsome and intelligent teenage boys. They have been married for two years.

To make ends meet they started a small art business, Seven Seas Sea Glass. They were starting to have booths in several events up and down the coast until his cancer diagnoses. The reason for starting this GoFund me account is to help with day to day expense’s during Kelly’s recovery time. Sandy nor Kelly will be able to work during this phase of recovery because he will need help with his Foley catheter bag and drains he will have for a month after surgery. Because of COVID 19 no one else will be able to help. Nor will I be able to see him. My son Kelly is the most beautiful, kind and gentle soul you will ever meet. His battle is uphill, “At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.”

Thank you for taking the time to read this story among many in our collective humanity.

Namaste (I bow to you)
