AWIMA Jewellery Design Competition is a first of its kind, high profile initiative to identify, celebrate and support African female jewellers. The Competition is a celebration of the courage, unity and resilience of African women in mining. In the jewellery industry: women own mines, work in mines, supply goods to mines, act as traders and buyers, gem cutters, jewellery designers, and jewellery makers – they do this against a challenging backdrop of health and safety concerns, patriarchal cultural norms, prohibitive legal systems and inaccessible markets but yet…women boldly succeed!
Your donation will go towards
1. Prizes - buying the metals, stones and production to make the design! Metals, gemstones and services will be procured from women miners, traders
2. Marketing - creating hype and overwhelming interest in the competition, the winners and the AWIMA Brooch.

As a sponsor you will get special access to an online private showroom to meet the designers and their entries and get a sneak peak of the production of the AWIMA Brooch.
The Design Brief will ask for submissions
- for an AWIMA Brooch design that celebrates inspirational women, evoke pride and feature symbols of strength and resilience of women in mining.
- to include coloured precious and semi-precious gemstones as be central to the design.
Competition will be open for submissions in 2021!
