THE AWAY DAYS WALK
One Day. Five Stops. One Legacy.
On Saturday, 27th September 2025, a group of SRDC coaches and committee members will walk 30 miles in a single day — starting at midnight in Leyland, passing through Chorley FC, the Toughsheet Community Stadium (home of Bolton Wanderers), Bamber Bridge FC, and finishing at Deepdale, just as Preston North End take on Bristol City.
This isn’t just a walk. It’s about honouring the past and investing in the future.
The idea was inspired by one of our coaches, whose nana received end-of-life care from St Catherine’s Hospice — a woman who was the quiet strength in his life and the heart of his family. She didn’t ask for praise or attention, but she was always there. St Catherine’s gave her dignity and compassion when it mattered most, and we’re proud to walk in her memory.
Now, it’s about more than one story. It’s about giving back to a charity that supports families across our community every single day.
Football has always been about more than just a game. At South Ribble Development Centre, we believe in using the game to shape strong, confident young people. That’s why every team from SRDC will be involved — full squads walking sections of the route, showing unity, pride, and support for something bigger than football.
75% of the money raised will go to St Catherine’s Hospice, helping them continue to deliver life-changing care. The remaining 25% will go to SRDC Football Club, supporting grassroots football, equipment, and opportunities for young players.
A committed team of SRDC coaches and committee members will take on the full 30-mile route — from the first step in Leyland to the final steps into Deepdale. It’s a massive challenge, physically and mentally. But we’re walking it with purpose — for the people we’ve lost, the kids we coach, and the legacy we want to leave behind.
