Awakening Heart

We are holding a special fundraising campaign in order to complete the construction of the a retreat center “Awakening Heart,” located near Lhatse village in Kham, Eastern Tibet. We seek to finish this construction to help anyone seeking spiritual inspiration and realization. The retreat center will be built to support the traditional practice of the Six Yogas of Naropa, while also offering an opportunity for individual retreats, free of charge. The proceeds from this campaign will help construct:

- six retreat cabins
- an outdoor meditation garden
- an indoor temple
- a separate room for training in yogic exercise
- a kitchen for all retreatants 

This project was initially inspired by the dedication of several local hermits who put their hearts and lives into spiritual practice. In particular, Lama Rangdrol has spent twelve years in this hermitage, inside the ruins of his prior incarnation's hut. Although this place is surely endowed with extraordinary blessings, it is no longer a safe place to inhabit. Nevertheless, with great determination, Lama Rangdrol has resumed retreat in this cabin. 

The new retreat center will be designed as an inclusive facility. The goal is to preserve traditional Buddhist teachings, offering a gateway into ancient and relevant traditions of spiritual awakening through the practice of Dharma, while also welcoming people of all spiritual paths. The ultimate intention of this project is to not only help foster the awakening of the practitioners who come to this facility, but to also positively affect all beings everywhere. 

For example, when we experience awakened compassion and unconditional love, we naturally let go of hostility, competition, conflict, and violence. This in-turn ushers in a new way of life, personally and globally—a life rooted in kindness, cooperation, harmony, and peace. At a time when humanity seems to be spinning wildly out of control, it is crucial to undertake such an urgent, supremely heartfelt task.

We are asking for your help to be part of our aspiration for the benefit of all beings. With the financial and, most importantly, spiritual commitment of people who share these aspirations, we can and will create a genuine refuge here for future generations...a refuge that seeks to support  the value and practice of peace, clarity of mind, and compassion. 

Our financial goal is to raise US$21,500 by May 2017, which will help complete needed the construction by Fall 2017.  There are two phases planned for this project:

- The first phase will be spent building the six retreat cabins, the cost of which is ~US$2,000 per cabin.

- The second phase will be spent constructing the temple for ~US$5500, the kitchen for ~US$2000, the yogic exercise room for ~US$1000, and the meditation garden for ~US$1000.
