Saving Stacy Olewiler

Donation protected

My brother-in-law Stacy was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma in January of 2018. He underwent chemo for 6 months and by June he seemed to be in the clear.

Then in October 2018 the cancer returned. He immediately underwent rescue chemo and was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant at Johns Hopkins University. The transplant had to be postponed because the cancer was resistant to the chemo.

Once the transplant was postponed, Stacy was recommended for an experimental treatment of a clinical trial for a targeted drug therapy which targets Refractory T-Cell Lymphoma. Unfortunately this therapy is only administered at Columbia University in New York City, which is over a 3-hour train ride (each way ) from his home in rural York, PA. To participate in the trial, Stacy will need to travel to Columbia University with a caregiver 2 to 3 times a month for 3 to 6 months. Once eligible for transplant he and Kelly will need to stay in New York City for 90 to 100 days, and this is where we need your help.

Stacy and his wife Kelly are both hard-working individuals who are struggling both emotionally and financially to keep up with the enormous costs and pressures surrounding his treatment . This family is counting on this clinical trial to help save Stacy. Unfortunately the train tickets alone cost $124 per round trip, per person, and then there are the additional cost of hotels after his therapies because he will be too weak to return home. Unfortunately, these expenses are not covered by insurance.

Stacy and Kelly are trying to remain active and positive throughout this entire ordeal. They look for the blessing in the struggle they are facing. They have received incredible support from family, friends and Stacy's volleyball referee community. Everyone is praying for a successful treatment and transplant, but this family will need everyone's help to make sure Stacy can travel to and from Columbia University where he can focus on getting better without the stress of figuring out how to pay for these expenses.

Stacy begins his therapies Tuesday, January 22nd; he is in need of help as soon as possible. So, if you've been touched by cancer, or are looking to make a difference in a family's life please considering giving what ever amount you can spare.

We thank everyone that takes the time to help this family in advance.
