Support Jessica’s Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone, our dear friend, Jessica (Jessie) Luther, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. She has just begun seven weeks of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She has a loyal and committed support team of loved ones around her—including her boyfriend Randy, who has come to the Bay Area from Los Angeles to be with her—but the approaching months will be a huge challenge for her physically, emotionally, and financially.
Jessica recently worked for the Alameda Free Library, where she was a popular storyteller for children’s story time, but left the library to work part-time while finishing up her graduate degree in Library and Information Science. In addition to grad school, which she has now put aside while she heals, Jessica works a flexible part-time schedule. Her employers have been wonderfully understanding and supportive, but treatment leaves her feeling ill and fatigued, and her doctors have told her that there will be a period when the narcotics she must take will likely prevent her from working at all. She faces much uncertainty about what the many weeks and months of treatment and recovery will hold; and the financial pressure is very real and very scary.
Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help; well, right now, in addition to all the love and well-wishes you can send her, Jessica really needs assistance to help pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, as well for as rent, food, medicine, and gas. Please contribute, if you can, to relieve the financial burden and make the next several months a little less stressful and frightening for our sweet Jessica. Thanks, and love to you all.
