Help Rwandan Scholar Norris

Norris is a Bridge2Rwanda scholar and will be arriving later this summer in Los Angeles to attend Pitzer College. The best and brightest students in Rwanda apply to the program which offers intensive admissions prep and support to get their scholars accepted with full academic scholarships to universities in the US, UK and France.

In 1994, approximately 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus were killed in one of the largest genocides in modern history. That's the equivalent of the population of the entire city of San Francisco in 2012. Unspeakable; tragic; devastating. And largely during the period it took place, ignored by the western world.

Despite the obstacles that are his day-to-day realities, Norris is full of optimism for the world and life. Despite losing his father to the genocide and living in the humblest of circumstances, he dreams, hopes, discovers. Norris lives courageously.

Norris needs our financial support to help him through these next 4 years. We all know how much a college education costs these days. Imagine starting out with NOTHING. Norris will be the direct recipient of whatever amount you give. And there is no such thing as a small gift. (By the way, he loves coffee -- so think about that $5 you might have spent on a latte, and buy him a cup.)

Here are some of the things that Norris will need to find a way to pay for each year because they are not covered by his scholarship (approximately $3000 / year in expenses -- large portion is airfare to and from the US from Rwanda):

* Roundtrip airfare to actually attend school each year
* Vaccinations required to matriculate -- you know..."garden variety" ones like POLIO
* Bed linens, towels, laundry detergent, clothes -- those things that we take so for granted
* A computer to actually do his schoolwork (this will not be a yearly expense...)

Norris is full of love, hope and verve, and we want him to be lifted by us to live his dreams.

In building our bridge to Rwanda, we will get so much more than we will give.

(PLEASE NOTE:  We will gratefully post all donor names to the blog -- -- unless you indicate that you would like to remain anonymous.  I [and Norris] can see the identity of all donors, even if you would like to remain anonymous to the general public.)
