In 2018 Avril noticed a lump in her throat that would not go away. This in time turned into a dry cough difficulty swallowing and pain on her right side. After experiencing this for so long she decided to follow up with her doctor who ordered her a CT scan. No one imagined the results she would receive. White spots around the lining of her lungs that she found out were positive for lung cancer. Never a smoker a healthy young individual. In September of 2018 she underwent a thoracotomy to remove that portion of her lung and a chest tube. After removal of the chest tube the pain on her right side would not go away. She again followed up with her doctors, multiple trips to the emergency room, numerous CT scans, Chest X-rays and no could give her a definitive answer of why the pain on her right side would not go away. Maybe trauma from the chest tube, pain medicine and with time it will hopefully get better was always the answer. Finally, 2 years later, Avril was ordered to go for a PET scan. The spots in the lining of her lung had returned along with a significant amount of fluid needing to be drained. The pathology from the fluid confirmed her cancer has returned. Avril is to start chemo in the upcoming weeks and a pleurx placed due to the fluid likely returning. The pain has caused her to leave work early on numerous occasions and honestly we’re shocked she’s even able to make it in. A testament of her strength. We want Avril to focus on her health and recovery. If you can find it in your heart to give in any amount you can it would help her for future medical bills and to not worry about the amount of days she will need off from work. If you know Avril, right now she would be planning her next trip to Trinidad for Carnival. She is such a strong independent woman who is always the first to jump in and help out her friends and family and never asks for anything in return. This time she needs our help and its our turn to show her how much we love and support her through this difficult time.
